Tammie Cline

Tammie Cline
Tammie Cline of Newton went to be with her Lord Monday, September 9, 2013 at the age of 30.
She was born in Florida on October 18, 1982. She was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church in Conover, where she served in the choir and drama ministry. She received her nursing degree from Gardner-Webb University in 2003. After receiving her degree, she met Christopher and they married on December 20, 2003. She was a loving and devoted wife and Christian.
Survivors include her husband, Christopher B. Cline of Newton; her mother, Sandra Kay Perry of Florida; her father, John Chapman (Darlene) of Newton; her brother, Charlie "Bubba" Phillips Jr. (Joy) of Florida; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Phyllis and Dane Cline of Hickory; her brothers-in-law, Kevin Cline (Teresa) of Bethlehem, Jeffrey Cline (Holli) of Hickory, and Spencer Cline of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, September 13 at Oxford Baptist Church.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 14 at Oxford Baptist Church with Pastor Joel Frye officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Lizzie Bratcher, 82, of 403 Steven St., died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013.
Survived by: sister, Dora Monroe.
The funeral will be held Mon. Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. in Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.

Brenda Thompson

Brenda Sue Brewer Thompson of Shannon died Friday September 6, 2013 at UNC Hospital Chapel Hill.
She was born April 23, 1959 in Scotland County. She is preceded in death by her mother Ruth Helen Brewer, her son Donnie Wayne Smith and her brother Charles Alexander Brewer. She was a member of the Hoke County Wagon Train for more than 25 years. She was employed with Hoke County as a bus driver for the handicapped. She was a long time dedicated member of Hoke County Parks and Recreation.
She is survived by her husband Jackie Thompson of Shannon; two sons, Lonnie Smith and Ronnie Smith (Shawnta) of Lumber, Bridge; three daughters, Blanche Smith of Lumber Bridge, Diana Walker (Brandon L.) of Shannon, and Laurie Jones (Ray) of Raeford; two brothers, Robert Brewer (Mary) of Norfolk, Virginia and Ronnie Brewer (Jeannete) of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters, Kitty Bell ( Rev.Tim) of Lumberton, and Laura Robin (Tom) of Hope Mills; 13 grandchildren, Jeremiah, Brandon, Brian, Cody, Malachi, Logan, Damien, Destiny, Shanelle, Brandon, Marcus, Tony, and Nicholas; an aunt, Catherine Oldham; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the Crumpler Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tim Bell officiating.
Interment will be in the Macedonia Holiness Methodist Church Cemetery 3720 North Duffie Road Red Springs.

Derrick Maurice Morrisey

Derrick Maurice Morrisey departed this life on Friday, August 30, 2013.
Also known as "De-Man," he was born to Cathy G. Bethea and Malcolm Gillespie in Moore County, North Carolina on July 4, 1976.
In his early years, he was raised by his grandparents, the late Eldred Blue, Sr. and Rosa Lee Blue.
He was educated in Hoke County schools, where he graduated from Hoke High School in 1995. He was a true "Buck" of Hoke, and loved baseball and football, and played during his high school years. His favorite NFL team was the Washington Redskins, and the Philadelphia Eagles were a close runner up.
He worked as a barber. He would get great joy using his hands to empower young men, by making them feel good about themselves.
He is survived by and leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, MarDerreya Morrisey of Fayetteville; his parents, Cathy Bethea (Dennis) of Raeford, and Malcolm Gillespie of Raeford; sisters, Jacara Gillespie, Sheena Gillespie, and Shauna McGougan all of Raeford; his grandmother, Marilyn Maynor of Raeford; a great-great aunt, Ruth Patterson of Raeford; five great aunts, four great uncles, six aunts, six uncles, his God-mother Cheryl Cunningham, and a very special friend Taura Dixon, along with a host of cousins, family and friends.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at J.W. Turlington School, 116 W. Prospect Avenue, Raeford, North Carolina. Burial will follow at Hoke County Community Cemetery, Raeford.

Kimberly A. Mangrum

Mrs. Kimberly Ann Mangrum of Raeford died Thursday, September 5, 2013 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst NC. at the age of 49.
She was born July 9, 1964 in Newport News, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Edward Baber. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Raeford. She was a loving and caring wife.
She is survived by her husband Ralph L. Mangrum of Raeford; a son, Michael Paul Mangrum; a daughter, Jessica Leigh Mangrum; her mother Laura Beverly Chaney; four brothers, Robert E. Baber,Jr, Tony Baber, Keith Chaney, and Kevin Chaney, all of Virginia; two sisters, Carla Sulivan, and Renee Chaney of Virginia; and four grandchildren.
A private service will be held later.

Wilson Northcutt Jr.

Wilson Northcutt Jr., 84, of 3790 Calloway Road, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Marcella; daughters, Eunice McPhatter, Shirley and Evangenlena; son, Stanley; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Sat. Sept. 7 at 3 p.m. in New Jerusalem Holiness Church.

Roscoe "Skeet" Baxley, Jr. died Tuesday, September 03, 2013 in the FirstHealth Hospice House at the age of 56.
He was born in Hoke County on February 23, 1957 to Roscoe Baxley, Sr. and Helen Locklear Baxley.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Baxley of Raeford; a stepson, Paul Minnick of Fayetteville; stepdaughters, Jennifer Minnick of Turbeville, South Carolina and Renee Minnick of Fayetteville; three brothers, Phillip Baxley ( Stacy Lynn ) of Rocky Mount, James Baxley ( Marilyn ) of Raeford, and Dean Baxley ( Mary ); and many stepsisters and stepbrothers.
Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel.

Cathy Louise Quick of Hope Mills died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 in her home at the age of 61.
She was born in Scotland County on March 7, 1952. She was preceded in death by her father William Homer Quick.
She is survived by her mother Louis E. White and her husband Norman of Raeford; her sister, Shirley E. Obenauf and her husband Marv of Peck, Idaho; and brother, Ray Quick and his wife Frances of Raeford.

Lula Mae Shaw, 73, of 946 Mockingbird Hill Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013.

Nellie G. Hernandez

(Sweet Sugar Bone) Nellie Graham Hernandez, 74, of Fayetteville, died Monday September 1, 2013 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was born September 16, 1938 in Hoke County to the late Neal Woodrow Graham and Mary Lee Bruce Graham.
She is preceded in death by her brothers Bruce Graham, Billy Graham, and Tony Graham, her sister Portia (Peggy) Graham and her son Wesley Wilkes. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Raeford. She was also affiliated with Jesus First Church of Fayetteville. She retired as an industrial engineer with Burlington in Raeford.
She is survived by her husband Tony Hernandez of Fayetteville. She was an awesome and loving mother to her five children—two sons, Ed Wilkes and wife Melody of Atlanta, and Joe Wilkes of Wilmington; two daughters, Martha Brigman and husband Harold of Fayetteville, and Mary Beth Zaccheus and husband Manuel of Hope Mills; and an awesome grandmother to her nine grandchildren, Danny, Conner, Christopher, Steven, Wes and wife Lauren, Manuel, Charles, Angelina, and Samantha. She is also survived by three precious great-grandchildren, Natalie, Alexia, and Aubrie.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.

Josephine S. Parker

Josephine Sarah Parker, 90 years old, of Raeford, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Firsthealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
She was born on November 6, 1922 in Washington County, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Sophie Steklacic. .
She is preceded in death by her husband George Freeman Parker, Sr. and her son George Freeman Parker, Jr. She was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son Bobby W. Parker (Jackie) of Raeford, and her daughter Candice M. Clark (Stan), a granddaughter Kelly Culp (Jim), and a great grandson Mason Culp all of Austin, Texas.
A funeral mass will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Raeford.
Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Cheltenham Veteran's Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.

Gabrielle Brown

Gabrielle Francis Lee Brown, age 24, of Raeford, died on Monday, August 26, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on February 11, 1989 in Hinesville, Georgia. She formerly attended Sandhills Community College where she was working to obtain a business degree prior to her illness. She loved and cherished her three beautiful daughters. She loved butterflies and flowers. She was a member of Rivers of Living Water Church of God in Fayetteville.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin Brown; three daughters, Olivia Nicole Brown, Cailey Morgan Brown, and Isabella Marie Brown all of the home; her parents, Clifford Davis and Parrish Davis of Raeford; two sisters, Tara Diane Strickland of Aynor, South Carolina and Ashley Ann Renee Cochran of Raefor; her grandmother, Sonja Carte of Huntington, West Virginia; two nieces, Abigail and Emmalyn Strickland; and many other family members and friends.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Rivers of Living Water Church of God in Fayetteville with Pastor Paul Keeter officiating. The family will receive friends prior to service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Raeford.

James (Jim) Hendrix

James (Jim) Robert Hendrix, Jr., 90, of Raeford died Monday, August 26, 2013 at his home.
He was born May 6, 1923 in Hoke County to the late James Robert Hendrix, Sr. and Maggie McDonald Hendrix.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Gragg Hendrix, and his son Larry Hendrix.
He was a member of the Raeford United Methodist Church. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the US Marines during WWII and the Korean War.
He is survived by two sons Jerry R. Hendrix (Sharon) of Carme, Indiana and Jeff R. Hendrix (Red) of Raeford; a brother, Earl Hendrix of Raeford; a daughter-in-law Donna Hendrix of Louisburg; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the family home 2235 Philippi Church Road, Raeford.
A graveside service officiated by CRE Herman Autry will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at The Raeford Cemetery.

Ret. SSG Cecil A. Rader

Retired SSG Cecil Andrew Rader, 57, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 in his home in Rockfish.
He was born in Washtenaw County, Missouri on July 27, 1956 to William and Vivian Holt Rader. He retired from the US Army and then worked for Blacks Tire in Fayetteville. He is preceded in death by his father, William Carole Rader.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cynthia Ann Rader of the home; mother, Vivian Rader of Michigan; son, Robert Andrew Bryson Turner of the home; four stepchildren in South Carolina; two brothers, Roy Rader and Jim Rader, both of Michigan; and two sisters, Carolyn McInnes and Pat Schultz, both of Michigan.

Clarence Jeffery Brown, Jr, 49, of 411 Halifax Drive, Fayetteville, North Carolina, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
He was an Army Veteran.
Survivors are: fiancée, Tiffani Coley of Fayetteville; children, Jemal McCollum and his wife Shayla of Millen, GA, Alisah Tooler and her husband Ousmane of Newark, NJ, Amoree Brown and her husband Domink of York, PA and Diamond Coley of Fayetteville; mother, Martha McNair Brown of Raeford; sisters, Pamela Hendrickson and her husband of Ridgefield Park, NJ, Brenda Statton and her husband Keith of Peekskills,, NY and Andrea Kelly of Hartford, CT; brothers, Kevin Brown and his wife Priscilla of Lorton, VA, Clarence Brown and his wife Lisa of Newburgh, NY and Alex Brown and his wife Crystal of Douglasville, GA; three grandchildren and of host of other relatives and friends.
