Wayne Lester Crowder, 86, of Butler, Tennessee, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 in his home.
He was born on March 22, 1927 to the late Manley and Ella Warren Crowder. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a son, Robert Eugene Crowder; sisters: Trilla Norris, Pauline Greear, Opal Pardue, and Dorothy Pardue; brothers: Clyde Crowder, Otis Crowder, Orville Crowder, Delmar Crowder and Harold Crowder; grandson, Jason Pierce and son-in-law, Gary Laws.
He retired from Burlington Industries. He was a United States Army Veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Betty Butler Crowder; daughters, Helen Osborne of Mountain City, TN, Kathy Pierce and her husband Johnny Ray and Wanda Laws, all of Butler, TN; sons, Larry Crowder and his wife Sandra of Raeford and Johnny Crowder and his wife Toni of Butler, TN; daughter-in-law, Debbie Crowder of Raeford; sister: Mamie Adams, of Mountain City, TN; brothers, Earl Crowder and Jim Crowder, both of Mountain City, TN; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his church family.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. in Dyson Grove Baptist Church in Tennessee with Pastor Leonard Fletcher and Brother Dean Fletcher officiating.

Laura Schlotman-Clayton
Laura Schlotman-Clayton, age 58, of Raeford, unexpectedly passed away on September 14, 2013.
She was a dedicated mother and wife and is survived by her husband Patrick Clayton; her son Nicholas Clayton; and her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Megan Clayton. She is also survived by her mother Polly Schlotman and her brother John and his wife Lesley Schlotman. She was preceded in death by her father, John Julien Schlotman.
She was born on July 19, 1955 in Marietta Georgia, attended the McEachern School and graduated from Marietta High School. She married Patrick on May 8, 1982. Since that time she and her family lived in California, Kentucky, Germany, Virginia, England, Texas and most recently Raeford.
A memorial service will be held September 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, 189 Church Street, Marietta GA 30060.

Mary Elizabeth Kersey of St. Pauls died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 84.

Margaret A. Townsend
Margaret Allyne "Rusty" Townsend, 86, who grew up in Bowmore, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at Southeastern General Hospital.
Born in Rockingham, N.C., she grew up in Bowmore in Hoke County, daughter of the late Lucy Wilkes Smith and John Louis Smith. She graduated from Louisburg College and went to work in Raleigh, along with her older sister Elaine. The two met and fell in love with two Rowland boys, David "Doodle" Townsend and Pete Burns. The sisters were married in a joint service in Raleigh in 1950.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her younger brother, Eugene Smith of Havelock.
She is survived by her three children, Lolita Townsend Huckaby Watson of Beaufort, Margaret A.T. Hutto (Ronnie) of Georgetown and David Townsend III (Missy) of Rowland; two grandsons, William David Black (and Danielle) of Georgetown and Charlie Watson of New Orleans; her sister, Elaine Burns of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Smith of Bear Grass; a niece, Lucy Burns Cusick of Atlanta; and Hal Burns of Edenton, Johnny Burns of Ft. Julia Isabel Barnwell of Clayton, 58, died on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 7:37 p.m. at her home.
She was born in Augusta, Georgia to the late Benjamin S. and Martha Louise Rich Barnwell, Sr.
She retired from the State of North Carolina having worked in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for 30 years. She was an Episcopalian.
Family and tradition was very important to her. She loved each family member in a special way.
She is survived by her two brothers, Benjamin Smith Barnwell and his wife Linda Gentry Barnwell of Greensboro, and William Lewis Barnwell and his wife Linda Millonzi Barnwell of Fayetteville. She had three nieces, Sarah Louise Barnwell, Hannah Elizabeth Barnwell, and Bella Maria Bennett. Julia will be missed by her family and friends whose lives she touched.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Melrose Cemetery in Abbeville, South Carolina with the Rev. Nicholas Beasley officiating.

Tammie Cline of Newton went to be with her Lord Monday, September 9, 2013 at the age of 30.
She was born in Florida on October 18, 1982. She was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church in Conover, where she served in the choir and drama ministry. She received her nursing degree from Gardner-Webb University in 2003. After receiving her degree, she met Christopher and they married on December 20, 2003. She was a loving and devoted wife and Christian.
Survivors include her husband, Christopher B. Cline of Newton; her mother, Sandra Kay Perry of Florida; her father, John Chapman (Darlene) of Newton; her brother, Charlie "Bubba" Phillips Jr. (Joy) of Florida; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Phyllis and Dane Cline of Hickory; her brothers-in-law, Kevin Cline (Teresa) of Bethlehem, Jeffrey Cline (Holli) of Hickory, and Spencer Cline of Hickory; and several nieces and nephews.

Brenda Sue Brewer Thompson of Shannon died Friday September 6, 2013 at UNC Hospital Chapel Hill.
She was born April 23, 1959 in Scotland County. She is preceded in death by her mother Ruth Helen Brewer, her son Donnie Wayne Smith and her brother Charles Alexander Brewer. She was a member of the Hoke County Wagon Train for more than 25 years. She was employed with Hoke County as a bus driver for the handicapped. She was a long time dedicated member of Hoke County Parks and Recreation.
