Alfred E. Steele

Alfred Edward Steele, 81, of 1452 Fayetteville Road, died Monday, April 1, 2014.
Survivors are: son, Michael McGregor; and sisters, Julia McPhatter and Willie Holt.
A memorial service was held Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. in Doby Funeral Home in Raeford.

James L. McLean

James Leslie "Crip" McLean, 64, of 260 Phillipi Church Road, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
Survivors are: wife, Carolyn; children, Kelvin, Tanika and Sheldon; sister, Mary Miller, Sally Thomas, Queen Williams, Delores McNair, Susie Baker and Katrina McNair; brothers, MacArthur McLaughlin, Clarence McLeod and Raymond McNair; and five grandchildren.
The visitation was held Sunday, April 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Ruth C. Collinson

Ruth Kathleen Campbell Collinson of 1040 Worth Street, Asheboro, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in Woodland Hill Center at the age of 91.
Known as Kaye by her family and friends, she was born in Hoke County on December 15, 1922 to the late Daniel James Campbell and Eliza Jane (Jayne) Perkins Campbell. She and her former husband, Glenn Collinson (deceased) began their lives together shortly after World War II in Miami, Florida. Hard work and determination through the years brought her to Wagram, which she would call home for the majority of her adult life. She was a faithful member of Montpelier Presbyterian Church and a dedicated employee of the Scotland County Inspection Department.
Upon her retirement, she traveled worldwide. She enjoyed many successes in the Senior Citizens State Games and V.F.W Auxiliary. She lived her final years with her youngest son Marty and his wife Sandy.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Campbell Jr.
Surviving are her sons, Michael A. Collinson of Greenville South Carolina, Martin Collinson and his wife Sandra of Asheboro; a daughter, Glenda K. Dowless of Leland; a sister Mildred Tolar of Red Springs; three grandchildren, Kevin Collinson of Raleigh, Joshua Collinson of Greenville, South Carolina, and K. Morgan Collinson of Asheboro; and two great granddaughters, McKenna Collinson and Alexis Collinson.
Visitation will be between 11:30 a.m. and noon on Saturday, April 5 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel , 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
The funeral will begin at noon Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Raeford Cemetery.

Maxine Lambert

Maxine Lambert, 61, of 232 Brownstone Drive, died Monday, March 31, 2014.
Survivors are: sisters, Vera Hollingsworth, Sallie Morris and Carolyn Morris-Ham; and brothers, Wilbert, Norman and Kenneth.
The funeral will be held Friday, March 4 at 1 p.m. in Christ FWB Church. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.

Joseph A. Cagle

Joseph Anthony "J.C." Cagle, 56, of Raeford, died Sunday, March 30, 2014.
Survivors are: children, Gina Stallings, Sharon Bullard, Charles and Brian Schmidt; siblings, Pam Self, Debbie Shaw, Earl Poston, Eddie, Jerry and Willie; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 5 at 11 a.m. Saturday in Boles Funeral Home chapel in Southern Pines. Burial will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Stanley Eustis

Stanley Eustis of Raeford died April 1, 2014 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 81.
He was born November 14, 1932 in Franklin County, Maine to the late Stowell and Dorothy McGuire Eustis. He was one of 10 children.
He is survived by his daughter Starri-Jo Eustis of Raeford; a son, Jeff Eustis of Jacksonville, Florida; three brothers, Robert (Joanie) Eustis of Phillips, Maine, John Eustis (Eleanor) of Portland, Maine, and Wallace Eustis (Mitsuko) of Mount Dora, Florida; three sisters, Dorothy Daniels (Charles) of Raeford, Susan Clark of Lewiston Maine, and Rosemary Timberlake (Greg) of Raeford; four grandchildren, Corey Eustis, Troy Eustis, Nichole Dustin, Nathan D. and Eustis; and five great- grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time.

Karen Stokes, 55, of 7070 Rockfish Road, died Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
Survived by: sister, Marie Pride.

William "Bill" T. Sessoms

William "Bill" Teal Sessoms, 72, went Home on Saturday, March 29, 2014.
He was born April 17, 1941 in Sanford to the late Malcolm Kelly Sessoms and Leona Lucille Teal. He preached his first message at 16 and alongside his wife, Joan, ministered for more than 50 years. For 17 of those years, he pastored at Archdale Church of the Nazarene.
He is preceded in death by brothers Malcolm Kelly and Ronny Edward Sessoms. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joan Maguire Sessoms; daughter Melody and husband Michael, daughter Bethany and husband Steve; son Marcus and wife Sydney; 15 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Surviving also is youngest brother Timothy Leon Sessoms and wife Heather, sister-in-laws Joann and Elaine Sessoms, many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The viewing will be held at 11 a.m. and a celebration service at noon at Cumbys Funeral Home, Archdale. A graveside service will follow at Raeford Cemetery.

June S. Woronchuk

June Stanley Woronchuk 79, passed away peacefully in the arms of her children and surrounded by family on March 25, 2014. She was born to Earl and Rossie Floyd (deceased) of Raeford on June 11,1934 and is survived by her daughter, Terri (Lou) Cunningham of Charlotte;a son, Sidney Floyd Stanley of Charlotte; brothers-Sam (Jeanne)Floyd of Fayetteville, Bill (Lib) Floyd of Rosehill, and Ronnie Floyd of Raeford; nieces, Sharon (Tom) Johnson of Raleigh, Wendy (Dell) Murphy of Wallace, and Helen (Raymond) of Raleigh; nephews, Sammy Floyd of Raleigh, Greg Floyd of Raleigh; and several great nieces and nephews, other relatives her beloved rescued poodle, "Pretty Boy." She is also survived by her former husband, Bill Stanley and fiancée, Betty Lawson of Fairmont and Lumberton with whom they have maintained a close family relationship throughout their lives.
Her early years were spent in Fairmont, and during her senior year she moved to Raeford where she finished school, married and had her two children. She later received her B.A. in English (UNC-P) and Spanish (University of Saltillo) in Mexico. She taught school for three years before being appointed the second female juvenile court counselor. She was appointed by the governor as the first State Director of the Cumberland County Juvenile Detention Center, serving in this position for 16 years before retiring and moving to Wilmington. She earned many recognitions and awards and was the first employee in the Division of Youth Services to receive the "Governor's Award of Excellence." She was also the recipient of the "Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award," the highest honor given by the State of North Carolina. She also loved to write poetry, and received the "Editor's Choice Award" from the International Library of Poetry. Her love for travel took her throughout the United States and Europe. Her recreational times were filled with shag dancing, line dancing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends that she held so close to her heart.

James T. "Tom" Wilkerson

James Thomas "Tom" Wilkerson, 64, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014. He was born May 1, 1949 in Moore County to Ruth Calloway Wilkerson of Hoke County and the late James Thomas Wilkerson.
He enjoyed being with his family, traveling and rooting for the North Carolina Tarheels. He was a lover of cars and the beach. He lived life to the fullest.He was a self-employed independent contractor in the field of technology.
Surviving are his wife, Ginger Wilkerson of the home; two daughters, Leanne Calloway and husband, Steven, Lori Phillips and husband, Eddie; two grandchildren, Timmy and Tommy; three sisters, Ruby Perkins and husband, Skip, Edna Morgan and husband, John, Lola Jones and husband, Chuck; his beloved dog, Layla; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at a later date.

Johnnie Belle McPhaul

Johnnie Belle McPhaul of Raeford died Sunday, March 23, 2014 in her home at the age of 96.
She was born July 4, 1917 in the Wheat Swamp community of Lenoir County to the late John and Eunice Sugg. She was a graduate of Wheat Swamp High School and then attended The Worth Business School in Charlotte where she met John Worthy "Buck" McPhaul. They married in 1939 and returned to Raeford in 1943. Not only partners in marriage, Johnnie Bell and Buck started several businesses together including McPhaul Accounting, McPhaul Williams Office Supply, and the Raeford branch of Nationwide Insurance. They later purchased the McLauchlin Company where she worked until 1997.
A devoted member of Raeford Presbyterian Church for 68 years, she served as secretary and treasurer of the Women Of The Church and was very active in the Ladies Circle until her death. For her faithful devotion and service, she was awarded a Lifetime Membership to The Raeford Presbyterian Church in 1986. She was also honored at the Hoke County Centennial celebration in 2011 by serving as a Grand Marshall of the parade.
Those who knew and loved Johnnie Belle would say that few matched her zest for life. She loved to play bridge, cook for her family (especially her famous fried chicken), work in her yard, go to the beach, and spend as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by Buck in 1991, she is survived by her daughters, Carol M. Sample of Newton, and Patricia M. Bingay (Thomas) of Lewisville; her sons John William McPhaul (Ann) of Shallotte and James F. McPhaul of Raeford; her sister, Bruce Bennett of Pompano Beach, Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall at Raeford Presbyterian Church on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Michael McGehee and the Rev. Dr. Ray Harris officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Raeford Cemetery.

Barbara J. Mordarski

Barbara Joan Mordarski (Chapman), 70, of Raeford, formerly of North Ridgeville, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and John Chapman and her brother, John Chapman.
Survivors are: her husband, Denny Mordarski of Raeford (formerly of North Ridgeville); sons, Dennis Mordarski (Melanie (ex)) and Dan Mordarski (Becky); and a daughter, Kerry Stalker (Dennis), all of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Matthew and Deidre Mordarski, Danielle Stalker, Steven and Katie Mordarski; and great-grandchildren, Kane and Harper Mordarski and Chase Lewis.
Burial arrangements are pending.

Carolyn Wilkes

Carolyn Matthews Wilkes, age 76, of Clyde, passed away on Wednesday March 19, 2014 at The Homestead in Clyde.
A native of Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Radford and Gladys Williams Matthews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ricky Wilkes. She was a retired employee of J. P. Stevens in Wagram.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ervin Wilkes of Clyde; a daughter, Debbie Odom and her husband, the Rev. Mike Odom of Morganton; a brother, Grayson Matthews and his wife, Carol of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; two granddaughters, Michelle Odom James and her husband, Allen, and Danielle Odom and her fiancée, David Snyder; and a great-granddaughter, Riley James.

Michael F. Elebee

Michael Fitzgeral Elebee, 45,of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Raeford, died March 13, 2014.He was born on April 13, 1968 in Cumberland County. He was a 1985 graduate of Hoke High School. He traveled in his work with a furniture promotion company.
He is survived by his father, John Elebee of Raeford.

Danny J. Towe

Danny Joe Towe, 67, of Raeford, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, in his home.
He was a Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors are: wife, Julie Towe; children, Alice, George and John; grandchildren, Jonathan, Logan and Tyler; mother, Virginia Towe; brother, Gene Towe and wife Pollie; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014, in Stoney Point Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Monday, March 17, 2014, at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills.
