Zachary D. Phillips

Zachary Dominic Phillips, 14, of Raeford, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, in Fayetteville.
Zach was born in Norwich, Conn., on May 29, 2000, to Diana Hathaway and Eugene Phillips.
He was a student at Anderson Creek Middle School and was scheduled to start as a freshman at Hoke High in Raeford. Zach was a loving son and will be greatly missed.
His mother, Diana Hathaway, preceded him in death.
Survivors are:  his father, Eugene Phillips; his brother, Justin Phillips of Raeford; a sister, Kelsey Phillips of Raeford; paternal grandparents, Donald and Alice Hathaway of Raeford; maternal grandmother, Kathy Phillips of Connecticut; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Funeral Services for Zachary and Diana will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in West Fayetteville Baptist Church, 2465 Gillis Hill Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304, with the Revs. Tony Wilson and Clarence Privette officiating.
Burial will follow the service in Cumberland Cemetery, Bingham Drive, Fayetteville.




Diana M. Hathaway

Diana Maria Hathaway, 31, of Raeford, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Diana was born in New London, Conn., to Donald and Alice Therrien Hathaway.
Diana was a loving mother and daughter and always had a smile on her face. She worked as a cashier at Food Lion and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
Her son, Zachary preceded her in death.
Survivors are: a son, Justin Phillips of the home; a daughter, Kelsey Phillips of the home; parents, Donald and Alice Hathaway of Raeford; brothers, Donald Hathaway Jr. and Michael Hathaway, both of Raeford; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family.
Funeral Services for Diana and Zachary will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, in West Fayetteville Baptist Church, 2465 Gillis Hill Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304, with the Revs. Tony Wilson and Clarence Prevette officiating.
Burial will follow in Cumberland Cemetery, Bingham Drive, Fayetteville.

Burleigh B. Thompson

Burleigh B. Thompson of Raeford died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in FirstHealth Moore Regional at the age of 77.
He was born in Richmond County on September 27, 1936 to the late Charles and Viola Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Jenette Campbell Thompson and his son, Garry A. Thompson. He was a member of the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church in Raeford and worked with the NCDOT as an inspector before retiring in 2000. He was a member and mentor with A.A. He served in the NC National Guard and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his companion, Ruby H. Wiggins of Raeford; his son, Jackie M. Thompson of Raeford; his daughter, Deborah T. McKenzie of Lillington; his extended family, Connie W. Dial (Terry) of Raeford; their children, Angel D. Baker (Derrick) of Raeford, Jonathan P. Hair (Biancia) of Raeford; a grandson, Shawn Buring (Jessica); and many step-grandchildren.
The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church, 379 W. Palmer Street, Raeford, with Reverend Billy Joe Brady and Reverend Gregg Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Fanette Gore Ollendorff

Fanette Gore Ollendorff, born in Raeford on May 30, 1933, died August 7, 2014 in Naples, Florida.
She was the daughter of attorney Arthur D. Gore and Annie McFadyen Gore. She grew up in Raeford, and graduated from Hoke High School, Peace College, and Meredith College. After she graduated, she became a teacher in Fayetteville and Annandale, Virginia. She was married to Max J. Ollendorff of Naples, Florida for 48 years. He retired after 35 years of service in the U.S. government, commissioned as a foreign service officer with assignments in Germany, France, Finland, and Washington. While her husband served overseas, she engaged herself in artwork and cloisonné jewelry. She served as a U.S. hostess at the French embassy.
She was a Christian mother and grandmother devoted to her children and community. She and her husband returned to Washington and then moved to Naples, Florida in retirement. Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Katherine Ollendorff of California; two sons, Karl Ollendorff of Naples, Florida, and Max Ollendorff, his wife, Christy and twin granddaughters, Amy and Emily Ollendorff, of California; and a sister, Anne Hostetler Register of Pinehurst.

Wanda Kirk

Wanda Kirk, 76, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 in her home.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 17, 1937 to the late Robert and Ruth George Kirk. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons, John D'Annunzio and Ben Mosco, and a brother, Doug Kirk.
She is survived by her partner, Fred White of Raeford; sons, Tim D'Annunzio and his wife Colleen of Raeford, and Robert Mosco and his wife Carol of Raeford; daughters, Doreen Comito and her husband John of Gloucester, New Jersey, Pamela D'Annunzio and her partner James McGeehan of Wilmington, Ruth Greer and her husband Jeff of Middletown, Delaware and Rose Marie Mosco of Pennsylvania; brothers, Robert Kirk and William Kirk, both of Pennsylvania and Donald Kirk of Cape May, New Jersey; sisters, Joan Kirk and Barbara Webb, both of Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304 with the Rev. Dr. Steve Castle officiating.
Burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park West, 6701 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Michael A. Minter

Michael Allen Minter of Raeford died Friday, August 8, 2014 in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 45.
He was born in Moore County on January 30, 1969. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ward Caulder, and his brother, Kenney Minter.
He is survived by his daughter, Hannah Minter of Fayetteville; his brothers, Chris Huffman and his wife Robin and their son, Joshua and daughter Candace of Raeford, Ronnie Strickland of Raeford, and Greg Huffman of Florida; and his sister, Tammy Benton of Michigan.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home-Raeford 7-9 p.m.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel-Raeford with Pastor Jerry Edge officiating. Burial will be in Raeford Cemetery.

Pauline McNeill Bruner

Sarah Pauline McNeill Bruner, 97, of Laurinburg, formerly of Antioch community, Hoke County, died Friday, August 8, 2014 at Scotland Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was retired from Dundarrach Trading Company where she worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She was a lifelong member of Antioch Presbyterian Church and a former president of the Clan McBryde. It was largely through her efforts that a history of the Clan McBryde was written.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamon Arnie Bruner.
She is survived by a brother, Percy McNeill and wife Jo of Columbia, South Carolina; a sister, Bertha McNeill Webster of Chester, Virginia; sister-in-law, Betty McNeill of Antioch; two sons, Ben Bruner and wife, Molly of Charleston, South Carolina, Jerry Bruner and wife Leslie of Laurinburg; seven grandchildren, Luke Bruner and wife Kristy, children Rowan and Iris, Lisa Bruner and husband Kris Jensen, daughter Ruby, Owen Bruner, Clay Bruner, Scott Bruner, Chase Bruner, and Abby Bruner; and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.
An interment will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Antioch Presbyterian Church Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. in the church, with visitation afterward.

Paul M. Blanton

Paul Marshall Blanton, 80, formerly of Raeford, of St. Matthews, South Carolina, died Friday, Auugust 1, 2014.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and later worked and retired from the textile industry.
He was born May, 12, 1934 in Horry County, South Carolina to the late Vernie Lester and Lula Gracie Blanton.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jacqueline Lynn Blanton.
Survivors are: his wife, Madaline Reynolds Blanton; daughters, Ila Pearl Blanton of Hartsville, South Carolina and Suzanne Blanton(Sheldon) Ledwell of St. Matthews, South Carolina; brothers; Jack(Carolyn) of Raeford and Jimmy W. Blanton of Union Springs, New York; sisters, Evelyn Duvall of Atlanta, Georgis and Gracie Anne Cole of Jackson Springs, North Carolina; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral was held Monday, Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. in Dukes-Harley Funeral Home Chapel in South Carolina with the Rev. Thomas Huggins officiating. Interment was in Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery in Green Sea, South Carolina.

Linda M. McBryde

Linda Ann Maynor McBryde, 60, of Raeford, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.
Survivors are: brothers, Jerome and Ernest Maynor; sisters, Marie McDonald, Ernestine McDowell and Yvonne Maynor.
The funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 8 at 1 p.m. in Friendship Grove FWB Church. 
Viewing will be held Thursday, Aug. 7 from  1 to 8 p.m.  at Crumpler Funeral Home in Red Springs.

Annette L. Dudley

Annette Lowery Dudley, age 50 of 501 Ray Street, died on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at First Health Hospice in Pinehurst, NC.
Survivors are: sons, Jason Lowery(Kayla) and Brad Clark(Victoria) both of Red Springs,, Robert Purcell of Maryland; one daughter: Jerika Purcell of Raeford; her mother: Hazel Lowery of Red Springs; three brothers: Timmy Lowery(Gail), Anthony Lowery(Bridgette) and Lynn Lowery(Melissa) all of Red Springs; two sisters: Janice L. Chavis (Wade) of Red Springs and Jeanette Locklear (Nash) of Lumberton; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Boles Funeral Home, Red Springs with Rev's. Hedrick Jones and Rick Dial officiating. Burial will be in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Shannon.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 7-9 PM at Boles Funeral Home of Red Springs, NC.

Franklin Carthens

Franklin Carthens, 66, of Raeford, died Friday, August 1, 2014.
Survivors are: sisters, Mable Graham, Vera Murphy, Earnestine McNeill, Lillian Cobbs, Myrtle Blue and Jackie McNair; brothers Herbert Carthens, David Carthens; aunt Eva McPhatter and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. at Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters in Raeford. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.
Public viewing will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home Chapel.

Lonnie A. Hendrix

Lonnie Adrion Hendrix of Raeford died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill at the age of 73.
He was born January 7, 1941 in Hoke County to the late Charlie and Delhia Carter Hendrix. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mamie Rockholt and two brothers, Benny Hendrix and Bill Hendrix. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was a community member who supported all athletic programs at Hoke High School for nearly 60 years. He participated in the booster club, raising funds, with his main support being in concession stands. In February of this year he was inducted in the Hoke High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife Linda Hendrix; a son Charles "Chuckie" Hendrix (Betty); three brothers, Bobby Hendrix, Noah Hendrix and Charlie "Howard" Hendrix, all of Raeford; and two grandchildren, Christine Ayer and Aaron Ayer.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 8, 2014 at Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church, 379 West Palmer Street, Raeford ; with the Pastor Roger Burns officiating.
Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery Wagram.

Martha Lee Kearns Cameron, 90, of Raeford, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014.

Woodford "Woody" Gasque, 79, of Raeford, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2014.
Survivors are: sons, Woodford Jr., Bobby and William; daughter, Helen Hunt; brother, Charles; sisters, Shirley Turner, Becky Jackson, Mary Hall, and Linda Lowery; and six grandchildren
The funeral will be held Monday, Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. in Saint Pauls Funeral Home chapel in St. Pauls. Burial will be in Cape Fear Baptist Church cemetery.

Willie Woods

Willie Woods, 92, of 133 Sallie Drive, died Monday, July 28, 2014.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are: granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
