Brenda Carol Darby

Brenda Carol Darby, 55, of Raeford died Monday, June 16, 2015 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

She was born August 30, 1959 in Fayetteville.  She was a past member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harrison Jack Holt and Lillie Alma Holt, and her brothers Timothy and Jack Holt. 

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Michelle Shepard of Red Springs, Tiffany Darby of Raeford, and Crystal Renee Darby of Raeford; 10 grandchildren, Brittany Renee Ayers, Chris Shepard, Jasmine Leigh Ayers, Clifton Lee Melvin III, James Christian, Alex Ayers, Katie Ann, Justin Hobgood, Jr., Julian Serrano Cuevas, Jr., and Lexie Anabella Serrano; and  two great grandchildren, Adriana Alexandra Ramirez, Raul Mikell.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2015 at Raeford Cemetery.

Earl McDuffie

Earl McDuffie, 83, of Raeford died, Monday, June 15, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Franklin County, Georgia on May 3, 1932 to the late Earl McDuffie Sr. and Eunice Hanley McDuffie. His ancestors arrived in Hoke County in the late 1790's.

The McDuffie family moved to Raeford in 1968. He was employed with Hormel Company before he retired. He opened the Edinborough Resturant in 1981.  The restaurant is still in operation at this time, by the McDuffie family. He was elected and served as a city councilman for 15years, and on the Board of Health for nine years. He was a member of Raeford United Methodist Church and American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army. He loved golfing, fishing and the people of Hoke County.

He is survived by his wife, Willaree Murphy McDuffie of Raeford; his daughter Carol M. Chambers (Gary) of Clayton; four sons, Mike McDuffie (Robin) of Chapel Hill, Chris McDuffie (Jenny) of Raeford, John McDuffie (Christie) of Calabash, and Patrick Earl McDuffie of Raeford; three sisters, Betty Jean Pethel, Frances Cook, and Joan Freeman, all of Kannapolis; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday, June18, 2015 at Raeford United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. at Raeford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Castle officiating.

Interment will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Lois Scarboro

Lois Scarboro, 95, of Raeford, died Monday, June 15, 2015 at her home.

She was born October 20, 1919 in Caldwell County, North Carolina to the late Walter Suddreth and Pearl Raby Suddreth. She was also preceded in death by her husband Lacy Scarboro Sr. and  her son, Kenneth Scarboro. She was a member of Parker United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Carroll Scarboro and his wife Joan, her daughter Betty Skipper, four grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held later.

George T. Blue

George Talmadge Blue of Raeford died Saturday, June 13, 2015 in his home at the age of 62.                

He was born in Fayetteville on September 26, 1952 to the late James and Mabel Saunders Blue. He was a member of Galatia Presbyterian Church, a volunteer and board member with the Rockfish Fire Department.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Mueller and her husband Mark of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Evan and Reaghan Mueller; four brothers, Ted Molchan (Wanda) of North Carolina, Don Blue of Florida, Henry Blue (Heath) of South Carolina, and David Blue (Chrissy) of Tennessee; and a sister Sherry Carter (Donald) of Tennessee.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 in the fellowship hall of Galatia Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Galatia Presbyterian Church with R.E. Herman Autry officiating. 

Memorial may be made to the Rockfish Volunteer, Fire Department 7600 Philippi Church Road, Raeford, NC 28376

Geral W. Gill


Gerald William Gill Sr. AKA Bear Killer, of Raeford, died Saturday, June 13, 2015 at  FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 79.
He was born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 14, 1935 to the late Edward and Mary Adams Gill.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Gill and his siblings, Jessie Gill, Wayne Gill, Peggy Sue Lufesy, Lois Rachel Gill, Georgie Rebecca Gill, Mary G. Wade and Carol G. Duncan. He was a member of Sandy Grove United Methodist Church. He was also a member and Peace Chief of Giduwah Band of Cherokee Indians.
He is survived by a son, Gerald W. Gill, Jr. AKA Storm Eagle of Raeford; a sister, Martha Hall of Roanoke; four brothers, Robert Gill of Bedford, Virginia, and Lonnie Gill, Donald Gill, Irvin Gill and his wife Doris all of Roanoke.
 Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June17, 2015 at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judson Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Aloysius L. Rogers

Aloysius Lamar Rogers, 37, of 4951 Red Springs Road, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
Survivors are: mother, Helena; father, James Baldwin; stepmother, Dawn Troutman; sister, Whitley Baldwin; and brothers, Montague Baldwin and Jamaurio Richardson.

Dennis Hamilton

Dennis Hamilton, 53, of Turnpike Pines Rd. in Raeford, died on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Survivors are: sister, Sarah H. Clark (Bruce); and brother, Bernie Hamilton (Deborah).
The funeral will be held Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m. in J W Turlington School in Raeford. Burial will be held in Highland Biblical Gardens in Raeford.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Purcell Funeral Home in Southern Pines.

Gussie M. Johnson

Gussie Mae Johnson, 78, of Raeford, died Friday, June 5, 2015.
Survivors are: children, Brenda Leach, Christine Adams, Alfonzo, Norman and Leewood; stepsons, Thomas and Jeremiah; siblings, Christine Singletary, Otis, Lacy and James.
The funeral will be held Friday, June 12 at 11 a.m. Friday in Spring Branch Missionary Baptist Church with viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. in Wagram. 
Burial will be in Daniels Deliverance Church cemetery. Viewing will be held Thursday, June 11 from 1 to 8 p.m. at Morris Funeral Home in Laurinburg.

 



Clinton O. Godwin

Clinton O. Godwin, 52, of 1577 McBryde Lake Road, died Saturday, June 6, 2015.
Survivors are: mother, Mamie; and sisters, Shelda Harris, Elaine Shaw and Jacqueline.
The funeral will be held Thursday, June 11 at 3 p.m. in Silver Grove Missionary Baptist Church. 
Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 10 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Erica D. Malloy

Erica DeShon Malloy, 28, formerly of Raeford, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 in Los Angeles, CA.
Erica was born in Cumberland County, NC on February 26, 1987 to Morvel D. Baldwin and Kenneth R. Malloy. She graduated from Hoke High School and then from the Art Institute in Charlotte.
Erica was her own kind of beautiful inside and out. She was an Actress/Model, who just signed with a major Artist Agency in Los Angeles, California. She was a fast learner, had a great personality and very detail oriented. Throughout her life she acquired special skills and abilities such as Painting, Cheerleading, Basketball, Frisbee, Bowling, Hula Hoop, Jump Rope, Jogging/Running, Jazz Dance, Roller Skating, Author, Yoga, Swimming, Volleyball, Belly Dance, Bicyclist, Cartwheel and Horseback Riding.
Erica's famous slogan is "Explore, Love, Create & Be Happy" and that's the attitude she expressed with her family and friends all across the world. She touched so many people and was an inspiration for others to turn their dreams into reality. She is extremely loved, will be heavily missed and a true Superstar!

Baldwin of Australia; God Mother, Teresa Lindsey of Raeford; God Brothers - Kiron Richardson & Jerod Richardson of Raeford; Grandmother, (Theola) Theolder Malloy of Raeford; 8 Aunts, 3 Uncles and a whole slew of cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, June 6 at noon at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.



William H. Stutts

William Hughie "Bill" Stutts, of Red Springs, died Saturday, June 6, 2015, at his home at the age of 83.
Mr. Stutts was born in Rockingham on July 26, 1931, to the late Hughie and Bernice Meacham Stutts. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catsy Currie Stutts.
Mr. Stutts was a member of Antioch Presbyterian Church and served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, and was a former town commissioner of Red Springs. He retired from Lumbee Electric as a line superintendent.
Survivors are: his daughter, Cheryl Stutts Wilson and her husband, Buddy, of Ocean Isle Beach; a grandson, Travis Wilson of Red Springs; a sister, Patricia Phillips of Lumberton; two brothers, Jack Stutts and his wife, Terry, of Charlotte and Mike Stutts and his wife, Betsy, of Red Springs; and three brothers-in-law, Billy Currie and his wife, Janet, Harold Currie, and Eddie Currie and his wife, Nancy, all of Red Springs.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Antioch Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. David Hudson and the Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall

Kevin West

Kevin West of Raeford died Sunday June 7, 2015 at his home at the age of 48.

He was born in Laurinburg on May 20, 1967. He was preceded in death by his mother Sarah English Ross.

He is survived by two daughters, Kristen West Hagreen and her husband Robert of Cary, and Jessica West of Troy; his father Donald E. Ross of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; his sister Kristie West McBryde (Randy Wright) of Raeford; and five grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held later.
