Blance Hedgpeth

Blanche Hedgpeth of Raeford died, Thursday, November 5, 2015 in Open Arms Retirement Center at the age of 100.

She was born in Robeson County on September 6, 1915 to the late English and Maggie Walters Floyd. She was a faithful member of the Raeford First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.V. Hedgpeth and her sons, Charles Hedgpeth and Bobby Hedgpeth.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Hedgpeth of Laurinburg, Vardell Hedgpeth and his wife, Janeth of Raeford, and Steve Hedgpeth and his wife, Jane of Raeford; three sisters, Emily Sephens of N. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Sadie Shannon of Little River, South Carolina, and Sarah Brooks and her husband, Bill of Whiteville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Crumpler Funeral Home-Raeford.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Raeford First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Lee, the Rev. James Wilhide and the Rev. Sanders Read officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Edit B. Nixon

Edith Bell (Badgett) Nixon, 89, of Aberdeen passed on November 2, 2015 at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.  

She was born July 20, 1926 in Surry County, North Carolina to the late Hoyt Lee Badgett and Ruby Annie (Denny) Badgett. She was a long time member of the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, Easter Star, and The Garden Club.  She loved flowers, embroidering and enjoyed traveling. 

She was preceded in death by her husband James Robert Nixon and a daughter, Ann Nixon Lindenfeld and infant daughter Harriett Gail.
She is survived by her son, Harold Robert Nixon and wife Faye of Sumter, South Carolina; A daughter, Peggy Nixon Frye and husband John of Southern Pines; two brothers, Jack W. Badgett and wife Betty of North Wilkesboro, and Ray Badgett and wife Sue of Martinsville, Virginia; five sisters, Annie Lee Wall and husband Edgar of Siloam, Madge Mills and husband Alton of Ararat, Dorothy Scott of Pilot Mountain,  Gladys Shuler of Rural Hall, and Edna Wilmoth and husband Wayne of Elkin; six grandchildren, Terri Welborn and husband Bryan, Melinda Wallace and husband Justin, Danny McDiarmid and wife Meredith, Kenny McDiarmid and friend Paula, Leslie Cribb and husband Landon, and Jonathan Flinchum; and six great-grandchildren.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 1 to 2 P p.m. on Wednesday, November 4th 2015 with services starting at 2 p.m. at the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Rufus McLean and the Rev. Sanders Read officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Paul A. Crittenden Jr.

Paul Albert "Butch" Crittenden Jr., 71, passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2015.
He was a resident of South Daytona Beach, Florida for 30 years. He was born in Suffolk, son of the late Paul and Hilda Crittenden. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of South Daytona Beach; a son, Paul A. "Al" Crittenden III; two grandsons, Shawn Crittenden and Paul A. "A.J." Crittenden of Raeford; two sisters, Paulette C. Moore and husband Wesley of Suffolk, and Louise Whedbee and husband Jimmie of Orlando, Florida; a brother, Roger Dale Crittenden Sr.; a sister-in-law, Phyllis of Suffolk; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved bird, Slick.
A private memorial service will be held later.

George R. Nickelson

George Robert Nickelson, 84, of Raeford, died Sunday, October 25, 2015. 
The funeral was held Sunday, November 1 at 3 p.m., St. John Baptist Church. Burial was in church cemetery.



Jimmie Burns

Jimmie Burns, 74, of Raeford, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015.
The funeral will be held Monday, November 2 at 1 p.m. in Leach Springs Church Cemetery. Burial will be in Leach Springs Church Cemetery.

David Riley

David Lee Riley of Raeford died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the age of 53.

He was born in Cumberland County on February 12, 1962 to John William Riley and Jesse Tew Riley. He was a loving husband, father, and friend to all that knew him. An avid bow hunter and outdoorsman, he impacted many people during his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Riley.

 He is survived by his wife, Anita Sampson Riley; his daughter, Emily Paige Riley; his sons, Ethan Hoyt Riley, all of Raeford, and Daniel Lee Riley of Fayetteville; his father, John William Riley, Sr. of Davis Bridge; his mother, Jesse Tew Riley of Raeford; his sister, Lynn Riley Carson (Lewis) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his brother, John William Riley, Jr (Jan) of Davis Bridge; his grandchildren, Hannah and Noah; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family will receive friends between 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford.

The funeral will begin at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church, 379 W. Palmer Ave, Raeford, NC with military honors following the service.

Infant Peyton-Noel Evans

Infant Peyton-Noel Evans, died Sunday, October 25, 2015.
Survivors are: mother, Kiera Corshana Hobson; father, Tyrone Douglas Evans, Sr.; brothers, Ker'kierion and Leyum Hobson; grandparents, Sharon Hobson and Roas Sudderth; and great-grandmother, Catherine Hobson.
The funeral will be held Sunday, November 1 at 3 p.m. in Buies Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be McLauchlin Chapel Cemetery.
Viewing will be held Saturday, October 31 from noon to 4 p.m. in Buies Funeral Chapel.

David Larry Whicard

David Larry Whichard, 73, of Raeford, died Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1942 in Bladen County, NC to the late George David Whichard and Annie Barfield Whichard. Larry is preceded in death by his wife Betty Harrell Whichard. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raeford, where he served as a deacon, He was employed with Croft Metals and Clayson Knitting Co. in Red Springs before he retired. His hobbies were fishing, hunting and the outdoors.
Survivors are: his son, Larry Dale Whichard and his wife Jenny of Fuquay-Varina, NC; his daughter, Shelley Whichard Ewing and her husband Brian of Greensboro, NC; 3
grandchildren Makenzie Whichard, Tyler Whichard, and Josie Whichard, a sister, Marilyn Cashwell and her husband Hudson of Hope Mills, 2 brothers, Joseph Benny Whichard and his wife Marie of Cameron, NC; Daniel Wayne Whichard and his wife Ann of Lumberton.
A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 30, 2015 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford, NC.
The funeral will be held at noon on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Raeford with Reverend Thomas Lee officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Eddie Stubbs, 80, of Raeford, died Wednesday, October 14, 2015.
The funeral will be held Friday, October 30 at 1 p.m. in Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Laurinburg. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

 



Beverly M. McRae

Beverly M. McRae, 79 died Thursday, October 22, 2015.
Survivors are: children; Eddie Jr., of Clementon, NJ, Holanda (James) of Fayetteville, NC, Terrence (Stephanie) of Raeford, NC, Kermit (Candance) of Stockbridge, Ga, and Kinney (Karen), of Mechantville, NJ. One brother, Walter(Barbara), Greensboro, NC, ten grandchildren, nineteen great grand children, and one great great grand, a host of nieces, newphews and relatives. She was affectionally called Mommie, Ma, Mother and Mother Beverly.
The funeral will be held Thursday, October 29 at 11 a.m. in Silver Grove MB Church. Burial will be in church in cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 28 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home.

Janet Pate

Janet McCormick Pate of Raeford died Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Firsthealth Hospice House in Pinehurst at the age of 78.

She was born May 10, 1937 in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania to the late Harold and Gladys McCormick.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Graham Pate and a son William L Rinehart.

She is survived by two sons, Dwayne Rinehart and Marcus Pate; three grandchildren, Amanda R. Pierce, Alexander Rinehart, and Allison R. Landsdown.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Raeford Cemetery with Pastor Roger Burns officiating.

Brian J. Hartman

Brian John Hartman ,40,  passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 in Surf City.
He was born in Mann, West Virginia on February 15, 1975.
He found the mountains, hunting and fishing peaceful, loved bluegrass music and helping others. He worked as a heavy equipment operator most of his life. He loved his three children, wife, family and animals. He would always talk about how much he loved his babies and Daph. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, the Rev. Clarence and Ethel Fortner who he loved dearly and Carlos W. Goodman Sr.' his grandfather-in-law; and Carlos W. Goodman Jr. (Buzzy), his father in law.
He is survived by his wife, Daphnie; son Brian Austin (16), Hayleigh (14) and Hanna (5); his parents, Carl and Barbara Mounts; mothers-in-law Cindy Goodman and Kristen Goodman(Buzzy); one brother, Nick Mounts; one niece Isabella Mounts; and aunts and uncles Sandra Grimmett, (Don), Jeannie Lee, Mildred Twardy (Ed), Mila Darnell (Danny), Tommy Fortner (Donna), Marty Fortner (Stephanne), Ann (Dave) Dick, and Lynn (Ricky) Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, October 25, 2015.

Melvin Chambers

Melvin Clayton Chambers, of Raeford, died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at his home at the age of 79.

He was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina December 8, 1935, to the late Robert Lester Chambers and Minnie Bet Smith. He served in the US Army.

He is survived by his wife Patricia H. Chambers, two sons, Melvin C. Chambers II , Andrew Chambers all of Raeford and his daughter Michele Musselwhite of UAE.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

 

 

Richard L. Burkhart

Richard Lewis Burkhart, 99, of Raeford, died Friday October 16, 2015.
He was born June 24, 1916 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late George Noble Burkhart and Lucy Elanor Noble. He graduated from Purdue University and the University of Michigan and was a Forestry Manager. A WWII Veteran, he retired from the US Army as a Colonel.
Survivors are: his wife of 73 years, Lucille McNeill Burkhart; daughters, Marsha Lucas and her husband Bob and Elizabeth Godwin and her husband Michael; 5 grandchildren and 7
great grandchildren.
The funeral  will be held Monday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Raeford Presbyterian Church  with a visitation scheduled one hour prior, at 10:00 a.m. in Ropp Hall. Burial will follow in the City of Raeford Cemetery.
