Jeanette M. Williamson

 

Jeanette McDonald Williamson, age 91, died in her home onSaturday, Nov. 28, 2015.

Born on April 16, 1924 to Lillian Baker McDonald and Daniel Baxter McDonald in Red Springs, she graduated fromRed Springs High School and attended Flora McDonaldCollege.

She married James "Jim" Williamson of Raeford in 1943 and they enjoyed a long and very happy life together until his death in 2006. During World War II, she worked at FortBragg and Maxton Air Base. She retired in 1992 from the Department of Agriculture in Hoke County where she worked very closely with area farmers. Along with her husband, she was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2003.

It was her family that was her greatest joy. She loved being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and followed their activities closely. She loved all of their football games, basketball games, golf tournaments, soccer games,wrestling matches, and wagon trains. She also patiently tolerated the menagerie of horses, ponies and dogs that found a home on the farm. She was the most loving and fun wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend and she will bemissed by all.

She is survived by her five children, Wanda Williamson Cohen, Penny Williamson Pusey (Jim), Gail Williamson Mclean (Bill), Don Williamson (Kim}, Frank Williamson(Gayle), 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She isalso survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Yarborough ofFayetteville and Katherine Bradshaw of Shalotte, and onebrother, Frank McDonald of Red Springs. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, granddaughter, Amy Cohen Seymour and great grandson, Troy Devoe Novak.

A graveside service will be held at Raeford Cemetery on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 1 pm. After the service, the family will receive visitors at the Williamson Farm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Raeford PresbyterianChurch Building Fund or Hoke County Community Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

 

 

Gene Carter

 William E. "Gene" Carter of Raeford, died Friday, November 27, 2015 in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, at the age of 76.

He was born in Hoke County, on October 28, 1939, to the late Robert Lee Carter and Mary Cashion Carter. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bobby Carter, Ann Lowder, and James Carter. He was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church.

In April, 1973, He was named Executive Vice President of the Bank of Raeford. He was a former Raeford native, who had been associated with Waccamaw Bank in Tabor City, Lumberton and Chabourn for seven years. He was a graduate of the UNC School of Banking and had also completed numerous American Institute of Banking courses. In 1974 he was elected President of the Bank of Raeford. Following the merger of Bank of Raeford with UCB, which is now BB&T, he was then appointed to the BB&T State Board of Directors, until his required retirement. Following his banking career, he opened W.E. Carter Realty in Raeford. He was President of Upchurch Milling and Storage Company, Vice President of T.B. Upchurch Inc, Secretary and Treasurer of Maxton Farms Inc. and member of the Hoke County Board of Economic Development.

He is survived by his wife, Eloise Upchurch Carter of Raeford; his son, William E. Carter, Jr. (Leigh) of Laurinburg; three grandchildren, Claire, Carleigh, and Kate; his sister, Dodie Currie of Laurinburg; three nieces, Lynn Currie Jernigan (Lynn) of Dunn, Laura Lowder of Aberdeen, Deann Lowder of Aberdeen; nephew, Johnny Carter of Raeford; several cousins.

Visitation will be Monday, November 30, 2015 from 11-11:45 am, at the Raeford Presbyterian Church, in the John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall.  A graveside service will begin at noon in the Raeford Cemetery.
