Mae Emma McLaughlin

Mae Emma McLaughlin died March 14, 2023 at the age of 71.

She was born March 1, 1952.

She is survived by her children Taundra Finkley, Latoya McLaughlin, Kelvin McLaughlin; sister, Kathleen Ferguson; brothers, King Henry Love, James Love, Willie Love, and Gary Love; along with a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life was held Sunday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Carla Jo Stephens

Carla Jo Whitman Stephens of Raeford died March 13, 2023 in her home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 60.

She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina on August 23, 1962 to Howard and Jean Whitman.

She was full of life and adventure and loved to be outdoors. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, and animals. She had a very giving heart and would make friends wherever she went.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Vicky Jo; and her brother, Kenney Ray.

She is survived by her parents, Howard and Jean Whitman; two daughters, Amanda Mills and Ashley Stephens; grandbabies, Kirsten, Johnathen, and Branden; one brother, Scott; her faithful pets; and many other family and friends who will miss her very much.

A viewing was held at Crumpler Funeral Home from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023.

Joyce Bartrug

Joyce Louise Joll Bartrug died March 3, 2023, surrounded by the unconditional love of her daughters, at the age of 86.

She was born at home in a farm house in Forward Township, Pennsylvania on March 26, 1936 to Clifford and Dorothy R. (Watson) Joll.

She lived a full life caring for her husband and five children.  She and her husband were always busy with their multitude of talents. They started their married life building a home and went on to creating a jewelry business and Ashley Forge, a world-renowned craft knife making business. As if that wasn't enough, she enjoyed weaving handmade baskets.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Hugh Edward Bartrug Sr., son R. Wayne Bartrug, grandchildren (triplets) Garrett, Emily and Blaine Enyeart, sons-in-law Gary C. Madsen and Major Brian S. Banks; brothers-in-law Donald Bartrug and Duane Kennedy; and sister-in-law Louise Bartrug Kennedy.

She is survived by daughters, Deborah Jo Madsen of Myrtle Beach, Jill (Clifford) Enyeart of North Myrtle Beach, and Joyce L. Banks of Raeford; son, Hugh E. (Lori) Bartrug of Jefferson, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Ashley Martin, Owen (Danielle) Cross, Kali (Steven) Book, C. Evan (Mireille) Enyeart, Hannah (Sarah) Dirkmatt, Abigail (Adam) Guy, Allegra (Dani) Madsen, Katrina Madsen, Christine (Eric) Becknell; great-grandchildren, Linn Mica Martin, Kaycee, Madison and David Cross, Miles Book, Hera and Ada Madsen, and Millie Becknell; sisters, Marlene (Donald) Ugron of Westerville, Ohio, Sally (Jim) Nicholls of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Linda (Larry) Hellein of Townville, Pennsylvania; brothers, C.G. Joll of Ohio and Roy Wayne Joll of Elizabeth, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Brenda Bartrug of Finleyville, Pennsylvania; and brother-in-law, Arthur Bartrug of Bridgeville, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, she preferred donations be made to UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation, 105 40th St, Pittsburgh, P.A. 15201. A graveside memorial will be held at a later date to be determined.

Dorene Cothran

Dorene Duncan Cothran died March 6, 2023 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 90.
She was born February 19, 1933 in Raeford. She was the oldest of six children raised by mother, Ruby Potter Duncan, and father, Earnest Carr Duncan.
After completing her education, she began her banking career at Raeford Bank in 1951. On April 5, 1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Tiffany "Tiff" Cothran. They began their lives together in Raeford, later moving to San Diego, Los Angeles, Overland Park, Kansas; and then to Dallas, Texas where she retired from Chase Bank after 40 years of service. Active in her church community, she served in several leadership roles for The Village Church and Christian Community Action.
She was an avid reader all her life, describing reading as a "gift." She loved working in her yard and was a great friend to many, maintaining those friendships over decades. Most prevalent in her life was her devotion to Jesus Christ. As a mother, grandmother, friend and volunteer her walk with the Lord was obvious. Her family's relationship with the Lord is proof of how she led her family well.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tiffany; her parents; sisters, Treva Gherna and Pat Bacos.
She is survived by her daughter, Tonya Lawson and son-in law Scott; grandchildren, Kyle and Zack; brothers, Linwood and Steve Duncan; and sister, Brenda Barton.
The viewing was held Thursday, March 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Mulkey-Mason funeral home Lewisville, Texas. Services were held at 11 a.m. March 9, 2023 at The Village Church - Highland Village campus, with burial at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery Wednesday, March 15, at 11 a.m.
