Margaret Scurry

Margaret Scurry died April 1, 2023 at the age of 81.

She was born May 21, 1941.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald D. Scurry; children: Ronald Scurry II, Michelle A. Scurry; grandchildren: Derek J. Scurry, Shonda Barnes, Billy Campbell, Monroe Campbell, Deanna Smalls, Erin Scurry; three great-grandchildren; along with a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at Silver Grove Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church.

James Randy Kershaw

James Randy Kershaw died Sunday, April 2, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional in Pinehurst at the age of 66.

He was born August 27, 1956.

Visitation was held Friday, April 7, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. at Doby Funeral Home. A funeral was held on Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 1 p.m. at J.W. Turlington School Auditorium.


Neil Oxendine

Neil Oxendine of Red Springs died April 6, 2023 in his home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 86.

He was born in Robeson County on June 22, 1936 to the late Charlie and Streetie Oxendine.

He was a member of South Hoke Baptist Church where he served as chairman deacon for many years. He loved the Lord and his church family. He was a beloved father who enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting for his family and community.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Cynthia L. Oxendine in 2016.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evon Oxendine; children, Dwight Oxendine (Cynthia L. Oxendine), and his friend Mary Annette Bunce, Donna Dial (Morris), Tonya Cummings (Steven); grandchildren, Dwight Andrew Oxendine, Chelsey L. Goodman, Amber D. Oxendine, Moira Dial, Lucas Dial, Jordan Cummings, Jonathan Cummings, and Jamison Cummings; 12 great-grandchildren; caretakers, Josephine Locklear, Hannah Young, and Susie Goins, a special nephew/second son, Anthony "Pete" Oxendine, his only surviving sibling, Maggie O. Hunt, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A wake was held 2-3 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2023 at South Hoke Baptist Church, 4153 Old Maxton Road, Red Springs, N.C. A service was held at 3 p.m. at the church with Rev. Gene T. Chavis, Rev. Ernest Goings, Rev. Jarrett Locklear, and Rev. John David Hunt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
