Linda G. Marsh

Linda Gail Marsh, 63, of Raeford, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2013.
Survivors are: husband, Robert; sons, Neil Covington and Willie Jones III; sister, Denise McGregor; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Fri. Aug. 16 at noon in Bridges Grove AME Zion Church in Shannon.
Viewing will be today, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Crumpler Funeral Home in Red Springs and the visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clorena Vestal

Clorena Vestal, 68, of 1051 Loop Road, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.
Survivors are: husband, Grant; daughters, Amanda McNeill and Carnetta McLaurin; sons, George McLaurin and Vidal McLaurin; siblings, Floyd Jr., James, Charles, David, Ethel, Shirley, Gloria and Martha; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
The funeral, will be held Fri., Aug. 16 a t2 p.m. in Avery Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will be in church cemetery.
Viewing will be Thurs., Aug. 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Purcell Funeral Home in Southern Pines.

Martin E. Buss

Martin E. Buss, 70, of 548 Windover Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013. He was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Doris; and son, Roger.
A private memorial was held Tues., Aug. 13 in Cunningham & Sons Mortuary in Fayetteville.

John H. Love

John Henry Love, 74, of 2026 Hidden Forge Drive in Fayetteville, died Thursday, August 8, 2013 in his home.
Survivors are: wife, Machalle McIntyre Love; sons, Henry Gregory Love of Raeford, Bishop Kenneth Kelly, of Raeford, and Johnathan "Chino" Love of Siler City; daughters, Shirley Kelly of Fayetteville; and Nickkia McIntyre of Fayetteville; mother, Callie Bell Love Buie of Raeford; sister, Maggie Galberth of Raeford; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Sat., Aug. 17 at noon in Conference B Headquarters.
Visitation will be held Fri., Aug. 16 from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home Chapel.

Inez H. Goff

Inez Hough Goff, 80, of Raeford, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013.
Survivors are: son, Maurick Bradley; daughter, Stephanie Balaam; four stepdaughters; five stepsons; sister, Dasiree Hough; and three grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sat. Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. in Leach Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in church cemetery.

Dorothy M. Monroe

Dorothy M. Monroe, 74, of 709 Saunders St., died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013.
Survivors are: husband, Lester; daughter, Diane; son, Lester Jr.; 11 sisters; six brothers; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Fri. Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. in Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Red Springs. Burial was in church cemetery.

James R. Weaver Jr.

James Robert Weaver Jr., 55, of Wilmington, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter of Wilmington after a long battle with heart disease. He was born November 18th, 1957 in Macon, Georgia to the late James and Florence Weaver. He married Candace Sullivan Weaver on October 2, 2003 and she survives.
Also surviving are his son James Robert Groome and stepson Cory Steven Groome, both of Wilmington; brother, Mark Cameron Weaver of Southern Pines; and various aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest brother Bob Tanner Weaver.
Known as Jim, he was a long time resident of Raeford, traveled extensively, and settled in Wilmington, where he met and married his wife Candace.
He studied at the Pinehurst Culinary School, and became a master chef with a career that lasted 25 years. He began a new career, most recently with Rite-aid pharmacy. He was an accomplished guitar player, an avid reader of all genres, and was an obsessive football fan, especially of the Oregon Ducks. In recent years, he was actively involved in Full Circle Ministries. He had an infectious quirky sense of humor and always had a smile on his face for anyone who needed it. He was loved by family and friends and will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be held at Wesley Memorial United Methodist church on South College Road Monday August 12th from 2-3 p.m., with a memorial service following at 3 p.m. The Rev. Judy Jeremias and Pastor Tom Dean will officiate. An inurnment is scheduled at Greenlawn Cemetery immediately following the service.

Sgt. Eric Hobson Jr.

Sgt. Eric Daniel Cobb Hobson Jr., 33, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was born in Cumberland County on January 7, 1980 to Tereascia Maynor and the late Eric Daniel Cobb Sr. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Dorothy Mainor Ross, Fayetteville and Conward and Icerlean Cobb, Raeford.
His Awards and Decorations include: Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge, Combat and Special Skill Badge Basic Markmanship Qual Badge (Rifle), Overseas Service Bar.

George T. Scheel

George T. Scheel of Raeford died July 31, 2013 at Autumn Care of Raeford at the age of 75.
He was born July 23, 1938 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland to the late Thomas Francis Scheel and Nettie Elizabeth Russell Scheel. He was retired from the US Air Force.
He is preceded in death by his wife Lois Scheel.
He is survived by daughters, Connie Jones of Lincoln, Nebraska, Sharon Miller of Warrensburg, Missouri, Jody Gilfillan of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dixie Scheel of Saxapahaw, and Somer Stevens of Cary ; a sister, Fran Napfel of Edgewater, Maryland; seven grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.

Russell K. Lyle

Russell Kenard Lyle, Jr. of Raeford died Saturday August 3, 2013 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 56.
He was born in Germany on January 24, 1957 to the late Russell Kenard Lyle, Sr. and Doris Ansel Cribb Lyle. He was a member and past president of the Carolina Road Riders Motorcycle Club.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Dottie) M. Lyle of Raeford; a brother Ronald (Ron) Keith Lyle, Jr. (Margaret) of Raeford; a sister Sharon Ann Laundry (David) of Drummond Island, Michigan; a sister-in-law Sharon Pruitt (Dale) of Hope Mills; and several nieces and nephews.

Grace M. Parker

Grace McKellar Parker passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday August 4, 2013.
She was born June 3, 1921 in Robeson County to the late Daniel Peter McKellar and Annie Quick McKellar. She is preceded in death by her husbands, James G. McFadyen and Gus Parker, and her son David McFadyen, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma Parker Strother of Raeford; her son, Gary B. Parker and daughter-in-law, Otha T. McFadyen, both of Fayetteville; grandchildren, David G. McFadyen, Sheri C. Runfola, Keith T. McFadyen, Ronald R. Corrado, and Tracey M. Tugwell; and 12 Great-Grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home-Raeford.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Parker United Methodist Church, 7400 Fayetteville Road, Raeford with the Rev. Judson Dunlap and the Rev. Dennis Lamb officiating.

Lamelle Kathleen Moss

Lamelle Kathleen Moss, age 87, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lillie Jeanette Hall.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Hubert M. Moss of Aberdeen; sons, Stephen Larry Moss and wife Marion of Aberdeen, Darrell Hubert Moss and wife Elizabeth of Aberdeen, Alan Lee Moss and wife Bonnie of Kernersville, and Christopher Brandon Hall of Seven Lakes; daughters, Bonita Louise King and husband Herbert of Pinehurst, and Ginger Charlene Shaw of West End; a brother, George Vanhoy of Aberdeen; sisters, Naomi Lackey of Lexington, and Betty Jean Puckett of San Antonio, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2013 at Ashley Heights Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Ashley Heights Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at the church before the service.
