Josephine S. Parker

Josephine Sarah Parker, 90 years old, of Raeford, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Firsthealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
She was born on November 6, 1922 in Washington County, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Sophie Steklacic. .
She is preceded in death by her husband George Freeman Parker, Sr. and her son George Freeman Parker, Jr. She was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son Bobby W. Parker (Jackie) of Raeford, and her daughter Candice M. Clark (Stan), a granddaughter Kelly Culp (Jim), and a great grandson Mason Culp all of Austin, Texas.
A funeral mass will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Raeford.
Interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 in Cheltenham Veteran's Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland.

Gabrielle Brown

Gabrielle Francis Lee Brown, age 24, of Raeford, died on Monday, August 26, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born on February 11, 1989 in Hinesville, Georgia. She formerly attended Sandhills Community College where she was working to obtain a business degree prior to her illness. She loved and cherished her three beautiful daughters. She loved butterflies and flowers. She was a member of Rivers of Living Water Church of God in Fayetteville.
She is survived by her husband, Kevin Brown; three daughters, Olivia Nicole Brown, Cailey Morgan Brown, and Isabella Marie Brown all of the home; her parents, Clifford Davis and Parrish Davis of Raeford; two sisters, Tara Diane Strickland of Aynor, South Carolina and Ashley Ann Renee Cochran of Raefor; her grandmother, Sonja Carte of Huntington, West Virginia; two nieces, Abigail and Emmalyn Strickland; and many other family members and friends.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Rivers of Living Water Church of God in Fayetteville with Pastor Paul Keeter officiating. The family will receive friends prior to service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Raeford.

James (Jim) Hendrix

James (Jim) Robert Hendrix, Jr., 90, of Raeford died Monday, August 26, 2013 at his home.
He was born May 6, 1923 in Hoke County to the late James Robert Hendrix, Sr. and Maggie McDonald Hendrix.
He was preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Gragg Hendrix, and his son Larry Hendrix.
He was a member of the Raeford United Methodist Church. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the US Marines during WWII and the Korean War.
He is survived by two sons Jerry R. Hendrix (Sharon) of Carme, Indiana and Jeff R. Hendrix (Red) of Raeford; a brother, Earl Hendrix of Raeford; a daughter-in-law Donna Hendrix of Louisburg; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at the family home 2235 Philippi Church Road, Raeford.
A graveside service officiated by CRE Herman Autry will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013 at The Raeford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Philippi Presbyterian Church, 2800 Philippi Church Road, Raeford, NC 28376

Ret. SSG Cecil A. Rader

Retired SSG Cecil Andrew Rader, 57, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 in his home in Rockfish.
He was born in Washtenaw County, Missouri on July 27, 1956 to William and Vivian Holt Rader. He retired from the US Army and then worked for Blacks Tire in Fayetteville. He is preceded in death by his father, William Carole Rader.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cynthia Ann Rader of the home; mother, Vivian Rader of Michigan; son, Robert Andrew Bryson Turner of the home; four stepchildren in South Carolina; two brothers, Roy Rader and Jim Rader, both of Michigan; and two sisters, Carolyn McInnes and Pat Schultz, both of Michigan.
Visitation will be 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2699 US Highway 401 Bus Raeford, NC 28376. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the church with Pastor Toby Neal officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 400 Murchison Rd. Spring Lake, NC 28390.

Clarence J. Brown Jr

Clarence Jeffery Brown, Jr, 49, of 411 Halifax Drive, Fayetteville, North Carolina, died Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
He was an Army Veteran.
Survivors are: fiancée, Tiffani Coley of Fayetteville; children, Jemal McCollum and his wife Shayla of Millen, GA, Alisah Tooler and her husband Ousmane of Newark, NJ, Amoree Brown and her husband Domink of York, PA and Diamond Coley of Fayetteville; mother, Martha McNair Brown of Raeford; sisters, Pamela Hendrickson and her husband of Ridgefield Park, NJ, Brenda Statton and her husband Keith of Peekskills,, NY and Andrea Kelly of Hartford, CT; brothers, Kevin Brown and his wife Priscilla of Lorton, VA, Clarence Brown and his wife Lisa of Newburgh, NY and Alex Brown and his wife Crystal of Douglasville, GA; three grandchildren and of host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held Wed. Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. in Spring Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Wagram. Burial will be in Matthew Springs Memorial Cemetery.

Ruth T. Tyner

Ruth Tolar Tyner of Red Springs, died Friday, August 23, 2013 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton at the age of 95.

She was born September 4, 1917 in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Edmund Cornelius Taylor and Mary Catherine Roller.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack B. Tolar, Sr. and Ted R. Tyner and her son Steve Tolar. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Red Springs.
She is survived by a son Jack B. Tolar (Silvia) of Hope Mills; a sister Margaret Quick of Raeford; three grandchildren, Robert Tolar (Rochelle), Christina Horner, and Alaine Tolar (Chris); and one great grandson Robert Todd.
The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church in Red Springs at 11 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 with the Rev. Bradley Boberg officiating. Interment will be in the Alloway Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service at the gravesite.

Kelvin O Morrison

Kelvin O'Micheal Morrison, 48, of 306 Turnpike Rd., Raeford, died August 20, 2013 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Surviving are a son, Vontario O'Micheal Quick; daughters Lia Desiree Brazile, Corrinna McNeill, Porshe Nicole Bachelor and Tiffany Cianna Morrison; his mother, Mary Thomas Morrison; sisters Sonya C. Morrison and Audrenita P. Morrison; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday at Buie Funeral Home Chapel, 543 Vass Road, Raeford from 1-8 p.m., August 24. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m.
The funeral will be Saturday, August 24 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Church of God Founded by Jesus Christ, 449 Alex Baker Road.

William Parker Sr.

William "Bill" Thomas Parker, Sr., 69, of Raeford died suddenly Saturday, August 17, 2013.
He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on January 23, 1944 to the late Glenn and Betty Parker. He was a true outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and just being a part of nature. He cherished his family and the time they spent together. He spent more than four decades as an electrician with Burlington Industries. His life was devoted to serving Christ and others.
To cherish his memory he leaves behind his wife, Mary; son, William "Bill" Thomas Parker, II and fiance' Erin Tart, of Aberdeen; daughters Tracy Parker-Edwards and husband Ricky of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kim Parker of Southern Pines, Wendy Parker-Ward and husband Reedie of Pinehurst, and Marianne Parker of the home; brother Frank Parker of Raeford; sisters Glenda Chambers of Aberdeen, Nora Craven of Seagrove, and Sheila Deeb of Pinehurst; 12 grandchildren, LCpl Christopher Seaford (USMC), Jeremy Seaford, Megan Tillis, Michael Lovette II, Heather Odom, Richard Odom, Daniel Odom, Victoria Ward, Amber Ward, Erin Ward, Kaleb Quick, and Kyler Quick; and two great-grandchildren, Jade Odom and Taylor Tillis; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 6-8 p.m.
The funeral will be held at the Praise and Worship Center on Fayetteville Rd. in Raeford on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 3 p.m, Pastor Alton Burrow and Pastor Ken Shipley officiating. A private family burial will follow.

James H. Caulder

James Harley Caulder age 75 of Raeford, died Sunday, August 18. 2013 in his home.
He was born June 9, 1938 to the late John Earl Caulder and Mary Elizabeth Hayes Caulder. He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Caulder and his bother Lester Caulder.
He was a member of the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Helen Saunders Caulder of Raeford; a son Michael J. Caulder (Christine) of Raeford; two daughters, Toni Caruso ( James) of Raeford and Diane Owens of Lyman, South Carolina; two brothers, Ernest Caulder (Middy) of Fayetteville, and John Caulder (Louise) of Raeford; four sisters, Thelma Willoughby ( Braxton) of Red Springs, Shirley Odom (Willie) of Raeford, Frances Tyner (Robert) of Raeford, and Carol Altman (Bill) of Holden Beach; and five grandchildren. .
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church with Pastors Roger Burns and Billy Joe Brady officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. prior to the funeral at the church.

Ruth H. Hendrix

Ruth Hadden Hendrix, 89 of Lumber Bridge, died August 17, 2013 at Open Arms Retirement Center in Raeford.
She was born January 9, 1924 in Mahopac, New York to the late Emerson Hadden and Marion Lewis Hadden. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son William Curry of Lumber Bridge.
A graveside memorial service was held 1:30 pm Thursday August 22, 2013 at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Roxie Wilson, 95, of 805 McLean St., died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.
Survivors are: niece, Rosa Chavis; nephew, Harvey Chavis; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild.
The funeral was held Sun. Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at Faith Annointed Temple in Red Springs. Burial was in Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church cemetery in Raeford.

Dr. Louise K. Thomas

Dr. Louise K. Thomas, 86, of 732 Silver St., died Tuesday, Aug. 134, 2013.
Survivors are: daughters, Mary Morrison; sisters, Mary, Thelma Fairley and Francis; brothers, Milton, Arthur and John Kemp; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sun. Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. in Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters.

Sam Melvin

Sam Melvin Jr., 83, of 225 Spring Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013.
Survivors are: daughters, Ervin, Catherine Purcell, Sylvia, Bernice Wilson; sons, Samuel, Willie; sister, Annie Monroe; brother, Leavant; 18 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Tues. Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in St. Pauls. Burial will be in Mount Hebrew Cemetery in Parkton.
Viewing will be today, Aug. 19 from noon to 7 p.m.. at Cunningham & Sons Mortuary in Fayetteville.

Terry Louis Blue, 37, of 119 Spacer Drive, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.
Survivors are: daughter, Laterryon; sons, Kelsey McRae and Davarius; mother, Shirley; grandmothers, Linda, Mary J. Bratchers.
The funeral was held Sat. Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. in St. James Holiness Church.
