William Y. Stephens

William Younger Stephens of 4124 Pecan Drive, Hope Mills, formerly of Rockfish, died Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the age of 60.
He was born January 13, 1954 in Cumberland County to the late Belton and Lucy McFayden Stephens.
He is survived by his daughter Tammi Lucas of Fayetteville, his son Christopher Watkins (Heather) of Fayetteville, two brothers Vernon and Marvin Stephens both of Fayetteville, his sister Wanda Sue Williams (Roger) of Raeford, and five grandchildren.

Ellen F. Butler

Ellen Felina Butler died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the age of 62.
She is survived by her husband Donald R. Butler; two sons, Donald R. Butler, II, and Samuel Ream; two daughters, Hope McIntyre, and Angie Roth; a sister, Cynthia Lockridge; and four grandchildren.

Timothy "Tim" White

Timothy "Tim" White, age 56, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville.
He was born October 31, 1958 in Scotland County, son of Mary Jacobs White Ross and the late John Everette White, Sr. and he was lovingly raised by his stepfather, James Ross. He worked in construction until his health declined. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, NASCAR Racing and watching John Wayne western movies. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his two grandsons.
Surviving are his son Jay White of Fayetteville; his daughters, Brandy White of Laurinburg and Taylor White of Fayetteville; his parents, Mary and James "Jim" Ross of Gibson, a brother, John White of Knoxville, Tennessee; his sisters, Faye Alpiger of Fayetteville, Betty Fraser of Raeford, and Dale Tillis of Lake Butler, Florida; his grandsons, Josh and Dominic; and many special nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Pastor David Shoemake. Burial will follow the service in Pinecrest Cemetery.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be given in Tim's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105

Randolph Campbell

Minister Randolph Campbell, 62, of 878 Townsend Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014.
Survivors are: wife, Emma; daughters, Christina, Crystal Blue; siblings, Larry, Thomas, Freddie, Catherine Hallman, Marsellie, Lawrence, Theodore; two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Saturday. Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. in World of Life Temple Activity Center. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens. 

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 31 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

 

Christine L. Chapman

Christine Locklear Chapman, 77, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 in her home.
She was born in Hoke County on May 30, 1938 to Willie Locklear and Ethel Maynor Locklear. She was a homemaker. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Whitford Chapman Sr., a son, Jerry Maynor and siblings, Nola Hodges, Johnson Locklear, Cecil Locklear and Eunice Moore.
She is survived by her sons, William Chapman (Karen) of Hope Mills, Willie E. Maynor of the home,Joseph Maynor of Hope Mills; a stepson, Edgar Chapman Jr. of Linden; daughters, Nora Gray (James) of Lumber Bridge, Francine Jackson (Sammy), Anita File (Joe), and Nola Hall (Ron), all of Fayetteville, Denise Naylor (Duron) of Raeford and Janet Darden (Martin) of Fayetteville; 21 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Crystal Spring Chapel, 1465 Crystal Spring Chapel Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28306.
The funeral will follow the visitation at the church with Pastor Bruce Suggs officiating.
Burial will follow the service in Cape Fear Baptist Church Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Raymond E. Hawkins

Raymond E. Hawkins
Raymond Eugene Hawkins, 84, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Frances Althenia Hawkins; children Linda English (Butch), Raymond Eugene "Gene" Hawkins, Jr. (Donna), Kathy Schmidt (John), and Kim McGirt (John); grandchildren, Jack English (Courtney), Hannah English, Jeff Schmidt (Caroline), Mallory Wojciechowski (Timothy), Jessie Hawkins, and Mollie McGirt; and great-granddaughters, Caroline English, Charlotte English, Morgan Schmidt and Madeline Schmidt.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a decorated veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean War and the Vietnam War and was honored with a Bronze Star. He retired from the US. .Army after 20 years of service and was then employed 40 years by The House of Raeford. He was an active member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church and the Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Department in Raeford, as well as an active Shriner and Mason. He was also instrumental in helping to start and organize the Hillcrest Community Water System.
Hewill be remembered by those who knew him as a loving, devoted family man, who was full of life and enjoyed making people smile. Nothing made him happier that sharing a good meal and laugh with family and friends. He was a hard worker and a generous spirit who gave money, time and attention whenever a need arose.
He spent the last four years of his life surrounded by the love and care of staff and friends at Scotia Village in Laurinburg.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 29 from 7-9 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford.
The funeral will be held Thursday, October 30 at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Raeford with burial to follow.

Francis "Frank" S. Attebery

Retired Special Forces Command Sgt. Maj. Francis S. "Frank" Attebery, of Raeford, passed away peacefully at Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg on Saturday, Oct.25,2014.
Frank was born Nov. 28 1940, in Carmi,Ill. He graduated from Francis Joseph Reitz High School in Evansville, Ind., June 5, 1958, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1958. Frank's Army travels carried him to South Korea, Okinawa, Vietnam, Bad Tolz, West Germany and Heidelberg, West Germany, as well as posts at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Bragg, and Fort Bliss, Texas. His many military awards include the Soliders Medal; five Bronze Stars with V device; Meritorious Service Medal; and the Legion of Merit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgie and Russell Peerman; a grandson, Matthew Betts; two sisters, Mary Attebery Bishop and Linda Peerman Baker, and two brothers, Harold Attebery and Dennis Peerman, all of Evansville.
Survivors are:  his wife of 51 years, Loretta D Attebery of the home; son, Russell Attebery and wife Lynn of Lexington; daughter, Pamela Betts of Candler; three grandchildren, Shannon Kosch and husband Matthew, Michael Betts, and Joseph Attebery; a great-grandson, Konner Kosch; a brother, James Robert (Bobby) Attebery and wife Loretta of Petersburg, Ind.; a sister, Sue Peerman Jackson and husband Howard of Topeka, Kan.; aunt, Mary Ann Victorn of Olney Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends today, Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills. The family will also receive family and friends at the home. There will be a graveside service in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Disabled American Veterans.

 

Duane K. Robinson

Duane Kyle Robinson, 59, of 124 Tahoe Court, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Sophia; daughters, Shayla Timani and Tivanne; son, Duane Jr.; sister, Valerie Greaux; and brother, Jerold.
The funeral will be held Saturday. Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. in St. Joseph Learning Center in Red Springs. Burial will be in Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Red Springs.

 Viewing will be held Fri. Oct. 24 from 2 to 7 p.m. at L.E. Floyd Funeral Home in Red Springs and also at the home.

 

Vicki Beck

Vicki Alesia Brahin Beck 52 of Lexington died Monday October 20, 2014 at her home.
She was born May 10, 1962 in Washington, D.C.
She is preceded in death by her father Robert Edward Brahin and grandson Kullin Beck.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth Michael Beck; three sons, James Robert Beck, Michael Brandon Beck, Tristan Eric Beck; three brothers, Chris Edward Brahin, Tom Brahin, David Brahin; two sisters, Bonnie Brahin and Tracy Riley; five grandchildren, Cody Beck, Aaron Beck, Noah Beck, Brooklyn Beck, Josh Beck; and her parents, Shelva and James Riley of Raeford.

Willie G. Tate

Willie Grace Tate, 92, of 332 Old Wire Road, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014.
Survivors are: daughters, Maxine Gibson, Bernice Everette, Jacklyn Bunkins, Calian, Linda Tate; and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral was held Saturday, Oct  18 at 2 p.m. in J.W. Turlington School. Burial was in Daniels and Platt Cemetery.

 

James E. Jones

James Edward Jones, 80, of 171 Rose St., died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014.
Survivors are: children, Burnis, Janice, Ann, Delillah, Symphony, Audrey, Bernard, Gladys, Deanna, Sandra; 26 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Monday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Rev. Frederic "Fred" Dinkins

Rev. Frederic Rodolph "Fred" Dinkins of Fayetteville died Thursday, October 16, 2014 in his home at the age of 88.
He was born November 16, 1925, in Green County, Mississippi to the late Arthur Alexander Dinkins and Estelle Maples Dinkins. He was preceded in death by his sons, William Frederic (Rick) Dinkins, and John Gillis Dinkins. He attended Galatia Presbyterian Church. He served in the US Navy during WWII and served 35 ½ years as missionary with the Presbyterian Church in Brazil. He received his Bachelor of Divinity degree from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and his master's from Columbia Theological Seminary. He served as pastor at the Abbeville Presbyterian Church in Abbeville, Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Gillis Dinkins of Fayetteville; his daughter, Mary Ruth Dinkins of Fayetteville; his daughter-in-law, Mary Adams Dinkins; two step- grandchildren, Wendy Ray and Candida Nance; brothers-in-law, Bill Gillis (Grace) of Fayetteville and Johnny Gillis (Barbara) of Fayetteville; and 5 step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m. at Galatia Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Shuford White, the Rev. Sanders Read and Evangelist Trinidad Martinez Solis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Patricia M. Himsl

Patricia McGilvary McInnis Himsl of Cape Coral, Florida went to her heavenly home September 8, 2014 with her children at her bedside.
She was born at home July 7, 1940 in Dundarrach to Daniel and Mabel "Jeff" McInnis. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, and mother.
Parents Daniel and Jeff, husband George Himsl, and brother Julian "Hub" McInnis all preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sisters, Phyllis Slocum (Spencer), Dana DeArce (widow of Gil), Marie Pyeatt (Mark), and her brother Dan McInnis (Linda).
Also surviving are her four children Michael Langston, Lisa Himsl Meyrick (Bob), Perry Himsl (Joyce), and Matt Himsl, and six grandchildren, Kristoffer Neegaard, Daniel Neegaard, Analise Himsl, Mallory Himsl, Victoria Langston and Maya Langston.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 18 at 3 p.m. at Dundarrach Community Church.

Peter W. Hathaway

Peter William (Pete) Hathaway of Raeford died Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Firsthealth Hospice House in Pinehurst at the age of 77.
He was born in Waubun, Minnesota January 10, 1937, to the late William and Juanita Hathaway.
He retired from US Air Force in 1974. He was employed with the Fayetteville Police Department and Cumberland County Sheriff's Department. After retiring from the North Carolina Department of Probation and Parole, he worked for several years with Hoke County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Hathaway of Raeford; a daughter and two grandchildren of Minnesota; a stepdaughter Paula Crowder (Chris) of Raeford; a step-grandson Tyler Crowder; two stepsons of Fayetteville; two sisters; and a nephew.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with Sister Betty Bullen officiating. Full military honors will follow at the funeral home.

Edward Jarrell

Edward Jarrell, Jr. of 2691 Rockfish Road Raeford, NC; died October 10, 2014 at Firstheath Hoke Campus, at the age of 81.
He was born in North Hampton County on September 21, 1933 to the late Edward Jarrell, Sr. and Carrie Turner Jarrell. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sheila Joy Spear and his sister Virginia Overton. His hobbies were dancing and working on old cars.
He is survived by his grandson Jeremy Spear (Michelle) of Defuniak Springs, Florida; a great-grandson Jeremy Spear, Jr; two step-great-grandchildren, Brently and Brandon Cordle, son-in-law David J. Spear of Crestview, Florida; and two sisters, Fleeta J. Maxwell and Beulah J. Johnson (Archie) both of Raeford.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. - noon Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Philippi Presbyterian Church Cemetery with CRE Herman Autry officiating.
