Ashanti Allen

Ashanti Allen died April 14, 2023 at the age of 19.

She was born August 7, 2003.

She is survived by her mother, Quinette McGougan; father, Bobby Allen; sisters: Akera Allen, Saniya Allen, Ayanna Allen, Amelia Allen; brothers: Corey Allen, Q'Monte Allen, Davyus Allen; aunts: Genise Minefield, Jackie McMillian; uncles: James Allen, William McGougan, Tony McGougan, Kevin Grace; along with a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21 at Laurel Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Ernest Sutton Jr.

Ernest Robert Sutton Jr. of Raeford died April 13, 2023 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 67.

He was born October 18, 1955 to Ernest Robert Sutton Sr. and the late Janie B. Sutton in Tyrrell County.

He graduated from Hoke County High School in 1974. He enjoyed collecting classic cars especially his 1974 Corvette, 1956 Corvette, 1955 Thunder Bird, and 1957 Thunder Bird. He also enjoyed visiting the National Corvette Museums and having his own rare 1974 Corvette convertible displayed was a life time dream of his.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Janie B. Sutton; and his wife, Cindy W. Sutton.

He is survived by his father, Ernest Robert Sutton Sr. of Raeford; brothers, Blaine Sutton and wife Pam of Sanford, and Neal and wife Lisa of Raeford; nieces Sarah Sutton, Jane and Rebekah Sutton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at Raeford Cemetery.

Ramon Jamie Pagan III

Ramon Jamie Pagan III died April 16, 2023 at the age of 44.

He was born February 20, 1979.

He is survived by his children: D'Enrique Bachlor, Rio Pagan, Ramon Pagan; parents: Ramon Pagan Jr., Doris Pagan; siblings: Sonya D. Carpenter, Jamel M. Pagan; aunts: Arabella Liles, Vernella Anderson, Carmen Diaz, Ruby Pagan; uncles: Louis Pagan, David Pagan; five grandchildren along with a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. at Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters.

Betty J. Nixon

Betty J. Nixon died Thursday, April 6, 2023 in her home in Raeford at the age of 93.  

She was born in Georgia on July 23, 1929, to the late Clyde and Agnes Rich.

To know her was to love her. She was a pillar to our family, a friend to many. She was a very kind and loving woman who would offer help to anyone who needed her and would go out of her way to ensure you felt loved. She was truly an angel on Earth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.B Nixon Jr.; daughter, Susan Manning; sister, Kathryn Harvey; and brother, Clyde Rich, Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Gail Hayes and Barbie Williams; sister, Mildred Clements; grandchildren, Bryan Manning, Heath Hayes, Garrett Hayes, Daniel Williams, and Shauna Williams; nine great-grandchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews.

An inurnment was held at Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023.
