Edward R. (Moose) Duke, 64, passed away on April 4, 2016, following a brief illness at the Goldston home of his daughter Kristy Duke Sloan and her husband Brian Sloan.
He was a welding instructor at Hoke High School for 13 years. He will be remembered by family and friends as a lover of opossums and someone with a story to tell. He could make you laugh or cry and you never knew if the story being told was a truth or a lie.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Milton Duke and Mary Alice McDuffie Heath. In addition to the Sloans, he is survived by his granddaughter Riley Maynor, his stepmother Peggy Sears Duke and half-brother John Edward Duke (both of Apex), his half-sister Jodie Duke Denson (of Fuquay Varina) and Ellie Gossett (of Wake Forest) his half-sister.
A graveside funeral will be held at the Bynum United Methodist Church Cemetery in Pittsboro at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be to Noah's Landing, Coats, N.C. Online condolences can be made at www.edmooseduke.com .
