Ruth W. Green

Ruth Wilson Green of Aberdeen died March 11, 2016 at her home at the age of 79.

She was born January 17, 1937 in Union, South Carolina to the late Husie Wilson and Jewel Ruth Register Wilson. She was a member of Ashley Heights Baptist Church and retired from McCain Department of Correction.

She is survived by her husband Sydney L. Green of Aberdeen, and her children, Shirley McFadyen (Bill) of Cameron, Steven Vinson (Margaret) of Jamestown, Amy Batten of West End, and Erik Vinson of Sunset Beach.

Visitation will be held   6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home 40229 US 1 Highway Aberdeen.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Ashley Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Huff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Leon A. McNeill

Leon Anthony McNeill, 62, of Raeford, formerly of Southern Pines, died Tuesday, Mar 8, 2016 at FirstHealth/Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
He was employed for many years at FirstHealth/Moore Regional Hospital.
Surviving are children, LaTonyia and  Kahia McNeill, Natacia Tanner, and William Leonard Smith; mother, Beatrice Mack; father, David Murphy; five grandchildren; fiancĂ©', Mary Ruth Harris; and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Friday March 11 at 6 p.m. at  Douglass Community Center, Southern Pines
Inurnment will be in McNeill Family Cemetery at a later date.
The family is receiving friends at 819 South Mechanic Street, Southern Pines, at his daughter's home.

Melvin Parkins

Melvin Reynell Parkins III, 46, insurance agent, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

He is survived by his spouse Tammy; children Taylor and Tania; mother Brenda; father Melvin Jr.; brothers Maurice (Tammy M.) and Michael; and sisters Benetta Simmons (Lowell), Bertina, Briana, and Brittany. He was preceded in death by one brother, Matthew.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at East Lawn Cemetery on T.C. Jones Rd. in Rockfish at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends Monday night at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home from 6-8 P.M.

Mary Blake

Mary Frances Blake of Raeford died, Monday, March 7, 2016 at the age of 70.

She was born September 28, 1945 to Robert Oliver and Nellie Mae Woodcox. She was known by most as Frances and was well known in Hoke County for her ability to work on cars. She worked alongside her husband at the Auto Clinic in Hillcrest until 1995. During her time at the Auto Clinic, she was also a substitute teacher and volunteer for Hoke County Schools. Through the years, there were many hard times, but through it all, Frances always stood by her family. It was always her hope that everyone would get along and enjoy each other's company. To all of her family, those that are still here, as well as all that have gone before her, she loved each one of you. No matter the past issues, no matter the reason for having not communicated, she loved you.

Surviving are her son Kenny and (Charity) Blake (son and daughter-in-law); grandchildren Brandon and Allyssa Blake; and siblings Bobby (Gail) Woodcox, Peggy (Bill) Haseldon, Larry (Pat) Woodcox, Helen (Willie) Lentz, David (Jean) Woodcox, and Gail (Bob) Dudash.

Though she loved all her nieces and nephews, Cindy Baxley held a special place in her heart.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Crumpler Funeral Home-Raeford.

 

 

 

 

Edward H. Powell

Edward "Ed" H. Powell Sr. died Monday, February 29, 2016 at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, in Hartsville, South Carolina. He is preceded in death by son Edward H."Eddie" Powell Jr., granddaughter, Kathleen Palmer and his great- grandson.

He was was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was employed with Ina Bearing Inc. in Cheraw before he retired. He was a paratrooper with the 86th Airborne with the U.S. Army.  His great-grandfather was 1st Baron Baden-Powell, founder of The Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his wife Audrey C. Powell of Cheraw; four daughters, Sharon P. Sampson (William) of Laurel Hill, Janice P. Palmer (Harold) of Lugoff, South Carolina, Judy P. Jones ( Larry Knoerl) of Raeford, and Deborah P. Petit (Walter) of McColl, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford, and other times at the home of Judy P. Jones, 335 Woodberry Circle Raeford.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2016 in the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel.

 

Melvin Parker

Melvin Parker, 64 died Monday morning March 7, 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy Parker and Loretta Elsie Parker, his brother, Mitchel Parker, and his sister, Jeannie Boahn.

He is survived by his brother, Donald Parker of Raeford.

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10th at the Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs.
