Grace Gillis

Grace Walker Gillis, of Fayetteville, died Friday, April 29, 2016 surrounded by family at her home, at the age of 87.

 

She was born November 19, 1928 in Wayne County,North Carolina to the late William Wright Walker and Mable Capps Walker. She is preceded in death by 7 brothers and 2 sisters. She was was known as the "corn lady "and "egg lady" on Gillis Hill.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, William K."Bill" Gillis of Fayetteville, 3 sons, Robert L. Gillis (June), Frank B. "Possum" Gillis, and James W. Gillis (Wendy) all of Fayetteville, 4 grandchildren, Jessica Lee (Ben), Jenna Gilchrist (Jeremy), William Gillis (Alyssa), Caroline Gillis, great grandchildren, Noah Lee, Natalie Lee, Matthew Lee, and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held between the hours of 2:30-3:30pm Sunday, May 1, 2016 in the church parlor of Galatia Presbyterian Church 8800 Galatia Church Road, Fayetteville, NC

The funeral will be held after the visitation, at 4:00pm, in Galatia Presbyterian Church, with the Reverend Bret Johnson officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Ruth Scott

Ruth Alice Cummings Scott of Raeford died Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 66.

 She was born May 1, 1949 in Robeson County to the late Luke Cummings and Eva Holmes Cummings. She was a member of the Rock Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband Jimmy Scott, 4 brothers, Sam Cummings (Rita), Mark Cummings, David Cummings, Walter Cummings (Sherry), 1 sister, Martha Gonzales (Ray), a special brother in- law Larry Scott, and a special niece Angel Emanuel.

Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Monday, May 2, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford, NC.

The funeral will be held 2 pm Tuesday, May 3, 2016 in Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Ronald Bryant officiating.

Floyd McNeill


On Sunday, April 24, 2016 Floyd McNeill passed away peacefully at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, surrounded by his family.  
He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1970 after 20 years of proud service. He worked for the state of North Carolina at McCain Sanatorium. He then owned and operated McNeill Plumbing Repair and Hillcrest Mobile Home Park in Raeford before retiring again. He served as a deacon for Raeford Presbyterian Church where he was a devoted lifelong member. He was active in Ralph A. Pandure VFW Post 10 and the Woodmen of the World in Raeford.  He enjoyed time with his family, weekends traveling with his wife Joye in their motorhome, especially to Bluegrass festivals, and spending time with his friends at breakfast at Edinborough Restaurant or hanging out mornings at Daniel's Exxon. He was known for his sense of humor and quick smile. He loved seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His perfect day was sitting on his front porch while visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 63 years Joye Royal McNeill; his children William McNeill and fiancé Mya Dyer, Lynn McNeill Hendrix and her husband Gary, and Sharon McNeill Wood and her husband Richard; his grandchildren Billy McNeill, Sarah McNeill, Kathleen Wood, Peyton Wood, Matthew Hendrix and his wife Stephanie, Evan Hendrix and his wife Cortney, Sydney Hendrix, and John Arthur Hendrix; and five great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kaylee, Bailey, Hannah, and Stacy. He is also survived by his sisters Lucille Burkhart, Janie Barbour, and Edith Newton and husband Buddy; sister-in-law Alona McNeill; and a brother Lewis McNeill and wife Sarah Louise.
 Visitation will be at Raeford Presbyterian Church Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.  A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. followed by a brief graveside service. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Sam Morris Sunday School Class and members of VFW Ralph A. Pandure Post 10.

Dannie Jacobs

Dannie Lee Jacobs, 43, of 531 Mt. Zion Church Road, Maxton, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Hoke Hospital.

He was born March 25, 1973 in Scotland County to the late Dannie Hugh Jacobs and Frances Marie Murray Bullard. He was a member of Macedonia Holiness Methodist Church and was employed with Time-Warner.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bullard Jacobs of the home; two daughters, Shania Jacobs of Georgia and Micheala Jacobs of the home; a brother, Corey Jacobs (Dawn) of Florida; his mother and father in-law, Lois and Joe Bullard of Red Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 25 at Macedonia Holiness Methodist Church, 3270 N. Duffie Rd. Red Springs, with Pastor Robin Hammonds, Pastor Marvin Locklear and the Rev. Randy Locklear, officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Sheryl Carr

Sheryl Lynn Carr of 8150 Arabia Road, Lumber Bridge, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 40.

She was born September 29, 1975 in Laurinburg to Gilbert and Polly Jones, of the home.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Richard Carr of Red Springs; her son, Ryan Carr of Lumber Bridge; two brothers, Allen Jones (Sylvia) of Lumber Bridge and Phillip Jones of Lumber Bridge; four sisters, Barbara Brown (James), Maritta Hammonds, Laura Jones, all of Lumber Bridge, and Mary Ann Oxendine (John) of Shannon; three stepdaughters, Trisha Carr, Aimee Cook, and Barbara Carr all of Michigan; her god-daughter, Sabrina Murchison of Lumber Bridge; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of Michigan; and two special nephews,            Brandon Jones (Lanetta)and Linnie Jones, both of Lumber Bridge.

Visitation will be held 7-9 Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 in the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ronald Bryant officiating.

Burial will be in the Bryant Family Cemetery.
