Thomas "Ed" Monroe, Jr. of Raeford died, Friday, August 29, 2014 in FirstHealth Hospice at the age of 72.
He was born in Robeson County on November 28, 1941 to the late Thomas E. Monroe, Sr and Eula Mae Britt Monroe. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Stella Lorraine Hall, and three brothers, Hartwell Monroe, W. Thomas Monroe, and Buck Monroe. He was a member of the Raeford United Methodist Church and the Bob Lewis Sunday School Class. He was an avid bear hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine B. Monroe of Raeford; his sons, Thomas G. Monroe (Julie) of Lake Waccamaw, and Edward Monroe (Kelly) of Hope Mills; stepsons, Mitchell Walters of Raeford and Carl Walters of Raeford; brothers, Stuart Monroe (Vicky) of St. Pauls, and Ray Monroe (Billie Joe) of White Oak; his sisters, Sue Polston (Grady) of Raeford, Cindy Owen (Wayne) of White Oak, and Diane Monroe Culberson of White Oak; 8 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2014 at Raeford United Methodist Church, 308 N. Main Street, Raeford, NC.
The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. at the Raeford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Castle officiating. Burial will be in the Tolarsville Baptist Church Cemetery in St. Pauls.
