Jackie Wayne Laviner of Wagram died Thursday, August 27, 2015 in FirstHealth Hospice House at the age of 68.
He was born in Scotland County on November 18, 1946 to the late James Edward "Jamie" Laviner and Curland Laviner. He was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Mills Jones and his first wife, Mary Louise Bass Laviner. He was a member of the Raeford First Baptist Church and the Sandhills Emmaus Community. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and the N.C. National Guard. He also diligently served 46 years as a volunteer firefighter with the North Scotland Fire Department as Assistant Fire Chief. He was also a member of the Scotland County Rescue Squad for over 20 years. He served as town councilman in Wagram for 16 years and served on the board of directors for Lumbee River (COG). He was a referee for 20 years in basketball and umpire for 45 years in baseball with the N.C. High School Athletic Association and served many counties within the state. His hobbies included fishing, golf, and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Jones Bass Laviner of Wagram; his daughter, Crystal Laviner Hyatt (Darron) of Wagram; his sons, Jonathan O. Bass of Greenville, S.C. and David Brandon Bass of Marston; his brother, Rudolph "Buddy" Laviner (Janice) of Wagram; his sisters, Gertrude "Bunch" Hill (Harvey) of Haw River, Luella "Sister" Tew (Charlie) of Fayetteville, and Betty "Pet" Stanton of Laurinburg; and 5 grandchildren, Kellie Bass, Brandon Hyatt, Andrew Bass, Matthew Hyatt, and Brennan Bass.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Raeford First Baptist Church.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m., Sunday August 30, 2015 at Raeford First Baptist Church with the Reverend Thomas Lee officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Cemetery with full military honors in Wagram.
