John Whiteford Jones of Raeford passed away, Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the age of 85.
He was born January 17, 1931 in Hoke County to the late John Allen Jones and Willa Conoly Jones. He was a member of Sandy Grove United Methodist Church, where he served on many committees. He also served on the board with Liberty Hospice, and as a member of the Hoke County Planning and Zoning board. He served in the N.C. National Guard for more than 20 years, and was employed with the Department of the Army as Director of the Troop Support Agency. He was owner and operator of Colonial Poultry Farms.
He is survived by his wife Bette Parker Jones of Raeford, a son, Rodney M. Jones of Richmond, Virigina, a brother, William (Billy) Clarence Jones of Lumber Bridge, and a sister, Catherine McNeill of Red Springs.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church, 6800 Arabia Road, Lumber Bridge, with the Rev. Larry Chandler officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside.
