Barbara Lupo, 68, of Pinebluff, passed away at Duke University Hospital on Sunday, November 5, 2017.

She was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Harold and Annie Covington.  She was raised in Laurinburg and was a graduate of Laurinburg High School.  After graduation, she attended Wingate University and U.N.C. – Pembroke, and had earned her Masters in Education and Administration.  She was a loving and dedicated teacher for almost 25 years in the Hoke County school system. She also served as assistant principal of West Hoke Elementary, as well as the director for instruction at the Hoke County Board of Education for 17 years, for a total of 42 years of service.  She loved teaching the 4th grade and every child she met, she loved.  She officially retired from teaching in 2002, but her love for teaching took her back to the classroom until 2013.  She also loved playing the piano and shared her talent for several local churches in the area. She was a very loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend, and she will always be remembered for her generosity, lively spirit, and dedicated service to the church and the community.

She was the wife of Jimmy Lupo of Pinebluff.  She also is survived by her daughter, Andrea Lupo, and her sister, Frances Jeanette Townsend.

The funeral will be held at Yates-Thagard Baptist Church, 3820 Vass-Carthage Rd., Carthage on Friday at 2 p.m.  The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service starting at 1 p.m.
