Christine Armstrong Cothran of Raeford passed away July 2, 2018 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst at the age of 87.
She was born in Cumberland County on March 26, 1931, to Lawrance Garland Armstrong and Clyde Hair Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband for more than 60 years, William (Bill) Cothran, her son William Joseph (Joe) Cothran and her daughter-in-law, Mary Ross Cothran.
She was a member of Raeford First Baptist Church for more than 65 years, WMU, and was a Sunday School teacher for the Gleaners Class for more than 30 years. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pembroke State University with a degree in Elementary Education in 1970, and from East Carolina University with a master's degree. She was a teacher at Benjamin Martin Elementary School in Cumberland County for more than 25 years. She also tutored students in Hoke County.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith Christine Cothran of Raeford, and Patricia C. McNeill (Mike) of Raeford; four grandchildren, Michael Patrick McNeill (Shelley) of Dothan, Alabama, James Dwight McNeill of Raeford, Michael Taylor Cothran of Fort Worth, Texas, and Christine Nicole Cothran of Plano, Texas; great-grandchildren Andrew Connor McNeill, and Matthew Graham McNeill; and a brother, Jerry Armstrong (Susie) of Fayetteville.
A visitation will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday July 7, 2018 at Raeford First Baptist Church.
The funeral will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.
