Virginia "Butch" Locklear of Red Springs died October 8, 2018 at her home. She was born on January 25, 1940 to Roy Dian and Maggie Locklear Dial in Hoke County. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Freeman Locklear; her daughter, Cynthia L. Oxendine; two brothers, the Rev. James Dial and Roy Dial Jr.; and one sister, Annie Dial McNeill.
She worked at the House of Raeford for 30 years and worked at the Hoke County Schools for three years. She was a member of Mt. Elim Baptist Church since 1972. She served in the Outreach Program for 10 years. She was a WMU member since 1980, and she was the fellowship hall manager until 2013. She was also an active member of the senior citizen group where she started a quilting group, headed fund raisers, and planned trips. She sang in the adult and senior choirs and she played a part in the beautification of the church by decorating and planting flowers.
She is survived by three daughters, Bonnie D. Locklear (Randy) of Raeford, Regina Clark (Timothy) of Raeford, and Shawanna L. James (Nelson) of Raeford; two sons, Kevin D. Locklear of Raeford and 1st Lieutenant Justin C. Locklear of Raeford; a son-in-law, Dwight Oxendine; special niece, Carolyn Locklear (Rev. Larry) of Red Springs; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. at Mt. Elim Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Elim Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Services are entrusted to Boles Funeral Home of Red Springs.
