Virginia Ann Phillips Baker, 87, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Wayne UNC Healthcare in Goldsboro.
She was born in Snowville, Virginia on October 21, 1931 to Robert and Elizabeth Cox Phillips. She was married to the late Joseph Edwin Baker. She was employed for many years as a cake decorator with Winn-Dixie and always enjoyed the opportunity to work in her garden. She will also be remembered as a talented seamstress and made the wedding dresses for her daughters. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mark Gettle; daughter, JoAnne Joyner; and brother, Davis Phillips.
She is survived by her children, Kay Baker Scheetz of Hampton, Virginia, Robert Owen Baker and wife Karen of Mount Olive, and Elizabeth "Beth" B. Gettle of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Melissa Koos, Sara Ruhl (Tobias), Alison Baker, Meredith Batchelor (Jonathan), Army Specialist Lukas Baker, Kelly Gettle, and Brett Gettle; and great-grandchildren, Ryan Koos, Brandon Batchelor, Natalie Koos, Haleigh Batchelor, Kamryn Baker, Wesley Ruhl, Branna Baker, Elora Toran, and Claire Ruhl. She is also survived by her brother, John Phillips and sisters, Barbara Phillips, Helen Monroe and Dot Lancaster.
The family will greet friends on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate her life at 7 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Joanna Stallings officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday at noon in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
