Julian M. McArthur

Julian "Morton" McArthur, age 79, of 997 Pinebluff LakeRoad in Aberdeen went to be with the Lord on May 19,2018 and was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to Aline and Jo McArthur on February 6,1939 in Rowland. He married the love of his life Lena Hazelwood on May 21,1960. They celebrate 58 years of love and marriage.  He was extremely loving and very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a passion for art,an extreme green thumb for growing vegetables and beautiful plants, and a heart of gold. He was preceded in death by his mother Aline McArthur and his father Jo McArthur and two brothers Bob McArthur and Jim McArthur.

He is survived by his wife Lena H. McArthur; three daughters, Becky Byrd and her husband Ken Byrd, Dale Arbogast and her husband George Arbogast, and Rene' Oxendine and her husband Israel Oxendine; one son, Bobby McArthur and his wife Mary McArthur; eight grandchildren, James, Andrew, Stephen, Nicole, Brittany, Cain, Elana and Andrea; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Alexa; two great-grandchildren-to-be, Ellyanah and Nehemiah; several step-grandchildren; a brother, Larry McArthur and his wife Doris McArthur; and two sisters, Betty Jo Humphrey and Francis Clifton.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 5-6 p.m. at Turning Point Worship Center, 16433 US Hwy 15 501. A celebration of his life will follow the visitation.

Younger S. Wood

Younger Stephens "Woody" Wood of Rockfish passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the age of 48.

He was born on December 31, 1969 to the late Robert Wood and Loretta Stephens Wood.

A proud and simple man, he never met a stranger. He was a hard worker and loved his family very much.

He leaves behind, his wife, Cherry Wood of Hope Mills; his daughters, Amanda Wood Pike (Brett) of Rockfish, Carly Wood of Rockfish, Ashley Wood of Rockfish, and Stevie "D" Wood of Rockfish; his siblings, Rocky Wood of Raeford, Gathael Wood of Raeford, and Sandra Jones and her husband Wayne of Raeford; and his granddaughters, Tori, Randi, and Raegan.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 3-4 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church. 

The funeral will begin at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary with the Rev. Tommy Underwood officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Alice Hair

Alice Faye Landreth Hair of Linden went home to be with her Lord on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the age of 62.
She was born April 4, 1956 in Bladen County to the late John Thomas Landreth and Alma Hester Landreth. She is also preceded in death by her husband William James Hair.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Hudgins (Timothy) and Mary Nutter (Paul); a son, William Hair; five brothers, Ronnie Landreth, Danny Ray Landreth, Steve Landreth, Robert Landreth, and Howard Harris; a sister, Mary Sue Hair; grandchildren, Christina Nutter, Allison Nutter, Madison Nutter, Steven Hudgins, Selena Hudgins, James Hair, and Justin Hair; a step-grandson, Seven Ragle; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Wiggins.
The family will receive friends at Crumpler Funeral Home Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gloria Lovely

Gloria S. Lovely of Raeford went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the age of 64.

She was born in Greenville, South Carolina on December 31, 1953 to the late L.T. Stokes and Dot Fricks Stokes. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Steve Stokes, Sandy Sanders and Connie Stokes. She served in the U.S. Army during Operation Desert Storm where she served in the medical field. She retired from the U.S. Army in May of 2002. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Lovely of Raeford; her sons, Jeffrey Bishop Jr. (Kimberly) of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, Wayne Lovely Jr. (Ana) of Columbus, Ohio, and Troy Lovely (Erica) of Clarksville, Tennessee; her daughters, Amy Harrison and Melaine Lovely, both of Greenville, South Carolina; her brother, Gary Stokes (Pam) of Greenville; a brother-in-law, Roy Sanders of Fountain Inn, South Carolina;  and 10 grandchildren, Abigail, Michael Shane, Terra Nichole, Gabrial, Sebastian, Sophia, Jackson, Hunter, Riley, and Alyiah.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 18, 2018 11 a.m. to noon at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.

The funeral will follow at noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Fred D. Blevins

Fred D. Blevins of Raeford, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 at the age of 73. 
He was born on Jan. 6, 1945 in Atwell, West Virginia to the late Sampy Blevins and Geraldine Nelson Blevins. He served in the U.S. Army. He attended Shiloh Presbyterian Church. He retired as a plant manager.  
He is survived by his wife, Agnes Blevins of Raeford; a son David Blevins (Emily) of Florida; three step-daughters, Shannon R. Trejo of Texas, Angella D. Jackson of, North Carolina and Heather L. Jackson of Texas.; a stepson, Keith Walters and his wife Allison of Raeford; three grandchildren, Eva Blevins, Kohl Blevins, and Kipper Blevins; a sister, Gladys B. Sebastian of Georgia.; and three brothers, Carl Blevins (Faye) of Virginia, and Clarence Blevins (Kathy) and Jeff Blevins (Patricia), all of West Virginia.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from 10-11 a.m. at Shiloh Presbyterian Church.  The funeral will follow at 11 a,n, at the church with the Rev. Dr. Rufus McLean officiating. 
Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Bettie B. Wright

Bettie Benner Wright of Elmcroft Assisted Living in Southern Pines, formerly of Raeford, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at FirstHealth Hospice in Pinehurst at the age of 87. 
She was born on April 25, 1931 to the late Claude J. Benner, Sr. and Bevie Corbett Benner. She was married to Daniel M. Wright for 63 years. He preceded her in death in 2013. She is also preceded in death by her sister, Janice Benner. 
She was born in Moore County. The family moved to Raeford in 1941. She graduated from Hoke High School in 1949. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as assistant organist while in high school. She attended Wake Forest College for one year. After her marriage in 1950, she attended the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church and served in several capacities including Sunday School teacher, youth worker, pianist and choir director for many years. She was employed with Burlington Industries, Southern National Bank and McPhaul’s Office Business Company. She later completed her education at Pembroke State University in 1970, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. She taught in the Cumberland County School System for 20 years. 
She is survived by her children, Katharine W. Warner (James) of Raeford, John M. Wright (Deborah) of Aberdeen, and the Rev. Thomas T. Wright (Tammy) of Lincolnton; a sister, Ina Freeman (Don) of Pensacola, Florida; a brother, the Rev. C. J. Benner (Linda) of Raleigh; a sister-in-law, Rachel Dees of Raeford; five grandchildren, Jamie D. Warner, Matthew Wright (Sara), Nathan Wright (Janey), Chelsi W. Call (Jon), and Jordan Wright (Madison); and four great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Wright, Anira Wright, Molly Wright, and Jonah Wright. 
A visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 at the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church, 379 West Palmer Street, Raeford. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roger Burns officiating.

Martha J. Sanks

Martha Jackson Sanks of Raeford, formerly of Kingsport, Tennessee, passed away at her home May 8, 2018 at the age of 92.
She was born April 25, 1926 in Rockvale, Tennessee to the late Grover Jackson and Velera Todd Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Sanks and her daughter Barbara Sanks McNeill. She was a member of Raeford United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Tapp (Barry) of Raeford; three grandchildren, John Tapp, Velera Tapp Wyrick (Steve), and Samantha McNeill Ringler (Brandon); 4 great-grandchildren, Aiden Wyrick, Nathan Wyrick, Thomas Ringler, and Bradley Ringler; and her brother, Thomas Jackson (Jane) of Eagleville, Tennessee.
A private memorial service will be held later in TN.

Wilhelmenia McNair

Wilhelmenia McNair, 78, of Fayetteville went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 4, 2018.

She was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1940 in Raeford to the late Zinious B. Haynes and Dorothy McPhaul. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Curtis McNair; her brothers, Preston McPhaul, Leo B. Haynes and Zinious B. Haynes Jr.; and her sisters, Gollie A. Daniels and Julia P. Sydnor.

She is survived by her three sons, Joseph McNair, David Asberry McNair, and James Curtis McNair Jr. all of Raeford; three daughters, Mary Ann (Morris) Cole, Dorothy McNair and Brenda McNair all of Fayetteville; brothers, John E. Haynes (Roslind) of Maryland and Phillips Haynes (Catherine Johnson) of Fayetteville; sisters, Ella M. McMillan of Fayetteville, Hattie McNair of Maryland, Sarah D. Daniels of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Ozella Medley of Forestville, Maryland; and 50 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Cape Fear Conference B Center 10225 Fayetteville Rd, Raeford, with Pastor Bennie L. Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.

Margaret N. Webster

Margaret Bertha McNeill Webster, 97, of Chester, Virginia, formerly of Red Springs, died April 10, 2018. 

Margaret, Bertha, Bert, or Mac, as she was known by the countless friends and relatives who loved her, was a quiet tower of strength. She was born and raised in Shannon, and after graduating from high school, went to nursing school at the Thompson School of Nursing in Lumberton.  She truly was called by God to be a nurse because, more than anything, she loved taking care of others. After graduating from nursing school, she enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a nurse during World War II. This began her life of traveling around the world first as a Navy nurse, then, after she married her beloved Web, as an Army wife.  She managed the household and kept Beth and David in line while her husband served in three wars.  After Web retired, she resumed her nursing career.

Although she was a lifelong honorary member of Antioch Presbyterian Church, she and her family were members of a Presbyterian church wherever Web was stationed, and they were involved in many ministries of those churches. After moving to Virginia to live with Beth, she attended Beulah United Methodist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice W. Webster, her son, David M. Webster, brothers, Henry and Bill McNeill, and sister, Pauline Bruner.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth VanDenBerg; her daughter-in-law, Charlene Webster; her brother, Percy McNeill (Jo); grandchildren, Tim VanDenBerg (Tiffany), Sarah Glass (David), Lauren Cox (Jeremy), Rachel Webster, Leah Knight (Phil), Austin Hollingshead; nine great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Dell Dorgan, Betty McNeill, and Doris Webster. 

A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m.,  May 12, 2018 at Antioch Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating.
