Ethel Taylor

Ethel Davis Taylor, 83, died Saturday, February 6, 2021. She was a long time resident of Open Arms Retirement Center in Raeford.

She was born in Jamestown on March 3, 1937 to the late Gough Davis and Essie Cobb Davis. She worked in the textile industry prior to having children and then was a stay-at-home wife and mother.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Luther Charles (L.C.) Taylor, a sister, Marion Davis Sibley, and two brothers, Truett Davis and Curtis Davis.

She is survived by three children, Linda Rockholt (George) of Raeford, David Charles Taylor of Aberdeen, and Steven Taylor of Elizabeth City; three sisters, Frieda Evans of Stoneville, Bessie Ardizzone of Beaverton, Oregon, and Jacqueline Draughon of Fayetteville; three brothers, Elray Davis of Fayetteville, Richard Davis (Pat) Hope Mills, and Murl Davis (Martie) of Lumberton; five grandchildren, David Charles Taylor Jr. (Sara), Christian Craig, Kevin Craig, Justin Craig, and LeeAnna Craig; and two great-grandchildren, Hannah  and Cataleya.

The family will receive friends at LaFayette Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 1-2 p.m. and a funeral will follow at 2, officiated by the Rev. Tim Gore.

Interment will be at Parkton Cemetery.

Wyman E. Faircloth

Wyman Earl Faircloth of Raeford died Friday, January 29, 2021 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at age 77.
He was born in Stedman on September 17, 1943, to the late Seavy and Beulah Faircloth. He was preceded in death by his brother Johnny Faircloth. He was the owner and operator of The Car Exchange of Fayetteville, Inc. He was a strong, hard worker who never met a stranger and touched many lives. 
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ann Laton Faircloth of Raeford; two sons Luther Paul and his wife Lori of Fayetteville, and Jeff Paul and his wife Billie of Fayetteville; a daughter, Constance Dawn Faircloth of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Luke Paul and his wife Shana, Josh Paul, Jeffrey Paul, Brianne Paul and Brandon Paul, and two additional daughters Kim and Karen; two sisters, Lela Mae and Brenda; and two brothers, Stanley and Terry. 
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Rita Cummings

Rita Cummings of Raeford died on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at age 66. 
She was born on May 18, 1954 to the late Alex Locklear and Essie Mae Revels Locklear. She was preceded in death by her sister Ann Cummings. She was a member of Rock Grove Baptist Church. She retired from the Hoke County Public Schools as a Teacher's Assistant.  She was an avid gardener, loved cooking, traveling on special trips, loved to go shopping with the family and was an angel to her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years Sam Cummings of Raeford; a daughter Teresa Chavis and her husband Dwayne of Shannon; a son Sammy Junior Cummings and his wife Renee of Laurinburg; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Samantha, Daniel, Aubrey, Destine, Katelyn and Tawianka; 10 great-grandchildren: two sisters Doris Whitehead of Fayetteville, and Susan Lowery of Fayetteville; three brothers Buddy Locklear of Fayetteville, Leon Locklear and his wife Iris of Hope Mills and Larry Locklear of Fayetteville. 
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m.
Burial will be in the Rock Grove Baptist Cemetery.

Brooks McPhaul

Brooks McPhaul, of Pinehurst died Tuesday, January 25, 2021. She had been living happily at the Quail Haven Retirement Village in Pinehurst for several years.
She was born in Hoke County to the late James DeWitt Tapp and Mabel Veasey Tapp on June 24, 1923. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John D McPhaul in 2007 after 57 years of marriage. She enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. After studying at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, she worked in the FBI Washington, DC office during WWII and then went back to work after raising a family in the 1970s.
She is survived by her children, Angus D McPhaul (Allyson) of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Mary Brooks Hoagland (George) of Palmetto, Florida; grandchildren John D McPhaul (Laura Windsor), Justin Hoagland (Nikki), Kelly Brooks McPhaul,and Ashley Brooks Johnston (Forrest); and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 29th, 2021 at 9 a.m. in Boles Funeral Home, 35 Parker Lane, Pinehurst, NC 28374. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 1105 West Morganton Road, Southern Pines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Community Presbyterian Church, 125 Everette Rd., Pinehurst, NC 28374, or the charity of one's choice.

Ernest W. Barefoot

Ernest W. Barefoot of Raeford died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at age 81.
He was born on April 8, 1939 to the late James Thomas Barefoot and Lizzie Faircloth Barefoot. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Barefoot, Thomas Barefoot, Robert Barefoot and his sister Doris Skinner. He was a faithful church member of the Truth.  
He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Barefoot Jackson and her fiancé Isaac Scott of Hope Mills; three grandchildren, Britney Gardner and her husband Craig, Dustin Hill, and Ryan Hill, all of Hope Mills; four great-grandchildren, Hailey Browne, Tansley Gardner, Leah Gardner and Tucker Hill; two brothers, James R. Barefoot and his wife Betty, and Wilbert J. Barefoot and his wife Linda, all of Raeford; and a sister, Edna Hiatt of Yadkinville.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.,m. Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Raeford Cemetery with Pastors Tom Nussbaum and Curtis Bauske officiating. 
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.

Peggy Summers

Peggy W. Summers of Raeford died January 21, 2021 at FirstHealth Hospice House at the age of 81.
She was born in Hoke County on March 7, 1939 to the late James A. Williams and Gladys M. Williams.  She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas J. Summers. She was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church. She retired from United Carolina Bank, which is now BB&T.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim Summers of Raeford, her son Mike Summers and his wife Janet of Raeford, her sister, Lyda Jordan of Southern Pines, and a niece, Karen Larsen. 
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 24, 2021 at Raeford Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Archie Barringer officiating. 
Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Wagram.

Stephen Sowell

Stephen Wolf Sowell of Raeford died Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center age 36.
He was born in Fayetteville on March 2, 1984.
He is survived by his wife Karen L. Sowell of Liberty; his mother Red Hendrix and her husband Jeff of Raeford; his sister Tiffany Mercer and her wife Jennifer of Towson, Maryland; and his maternal grandparents Dallie and Max Cooper of Salemburg.

Kaye J. Godley

Kaye J. Godley of Raeford died Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at age 74.
She was born in Sarasota, Florida on November 1, 1946 to the late Cecil and Mildred Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Godley and her brother-in-law John P. Edge. She was a member of Church of Freedom in Raeford were she faithfully served the Lord.
She is survived by a sister Dianna L. Edge of Raeford; two nieces, Leanna C. Hair of Raeford, and Robin R. Edge of Fayetteville; and two nephews, Joshua F. Collins of Raeford, and Jay P. Edge of Raeford.
A private memorial service will be held later.

Charles Belton

Charles (Chuck) Ernest Belton of Lumber Bridge died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at age 60.
He was born in Fayetteville on March 31, 1960 to the late Retired CSM Henry Thomas Belton and Mable Wall Belton. He was employed with the Cumberland County School System. He was an avid hunter and loved to watch NASCAR.
He is survived by two sons, Charles Thomas (Tommy) Belton (Jewelya Elledge) of Lumber Bridge, and Robert Chase Belton of Fayetteville; a grandson, Charles (Charlie B.) Ray Belton of Lumber Bridge, his fiancĂ© Terrie McLean of Lumber Bridge,and her children Billie Hart (Maj. Brian Hart) of Kentucky and William G. McLean (Kayleigh) of Hope Mills, and Terrie; five grandchildren; three sisters, Betty L. Belton-Oats (Donald) of Lumber Bridge, Gina Windham (James) of Holden Beach, and Carol Belton-Britton (Daniel) of Troy; a brother Robert (Bo) Belton of Southern Pines; and a half-brother, Thomas Sanford (Lois) Alexander City, Alabama.

Edith Hunt

Edith Catherine Hodge Hunt of Raeford died Thursday, January 14, 2021 at age 72.
She was born on February 20, 1948 in West Virginia to the late Catherine Plum Hodge. She was preceded in death by her parents Nook and Carrie Chesgreen, and her siblings Tom and Wilma. She was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church in Raeford and was the owner and operator of Edie's Attic in Wagram.
She is survived by her husband Dave Hunt of Raeford; two sons, Edward Huskey and his wife Marcie of Raeford, and Lonnie Huskey and his wife Tina of Vass; two daughters, Tonia Ward and her husband Frank of Luttrell, Tennessee and Nicole Blackburn and her husband Brandon of Maynordville, Tennessee; two stepsons, Jason Hunt and his wife Diane of Redford, Missouri and John Hunt and his wife Lori of Morgantown, West Virginia; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Elmer and Dennis.
Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Raeford Evangelical Church 379 West Palmer Avenue, Raeford.
Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Roger Burns officiating.
Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Brenda H. Groves

Brenda Holder Groves died at The Beacon Hospice House in Greensboro, on January 8.
She loved being around her family and friends, holidays, and everyone she met.
She is survived by two sons, Athan and Nathan Groves, both from Raeford; sisters Sharon Risher of Florence South Carolina, Betty McDaniel of Greensboro, and Connie Crouse of Thomasville; brother Michael Nicholson of Winston Salem; and uncle, Jerry Nicholson and Vickie Oxendine of Shannon.
A memorial service will be held January 16 at 2 p.m. at Gallilee Freewill Holiness Church in Fayetteville.

Gisela A. Cottrell

Gisela Amalie Cottrell of Raeford died peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2021 at age 76.
She was born in Germany on August 5, 1944. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald B. Cottrell.
She is survived by two sons, Richard H. Rudolph and his wife Marybeth, and Peter Rudolph.
Burial will be in the Sandhills State Veteran's Cemetery.

Juanita F. Livingston

Juanita Fields Livingston of Raeford died, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at age 88.
She was born in Robeson County on October 11, 1932, to the late James Autry Fields and Katie Ange Fields. She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Livingston, her granddaughter Cody Warner, her son-in-law Henry Pickler, her brother Ronald Fields, and two sisters, Kathleen Bartch and Barbara Meinert.  She was a member of the Hope Mills Pentecostal Holiness Church and retired from Burlington after 40 years of employment.
She is survived by three daughters, Ronda Pickler and Sabrina Warner, both of Lumber Bridge and , Selena Jackson and her husband Ricky of Raeford; five grandchildren, Daniel Pickler and his wife Megan, Terrance Pickler and his wife Jodi, Heath Warner, Katie Pickler-Rawls and her husband Cam, and Chase Jackson; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elaine Fields of Lumber Bridge.
A private graveside service will be held at the Raeford Cemetery

Jack Ellis

Jack Ellis of Raeford died Saturday, January 9, 2021, at age 78.
He was born in Scotland County on October 2, 1942, to the late Roy Ellis and Alma Maness Ellis. He worked with Hoke County Inspection Department, Cumberland County Inspection Department, and City of Raeford Inspection Department.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gayle M. Ellis of Raeford; two sons, Jack Ellis, and Joey Ellis and his wife Brenda, all of Raeford; two daughters, Lynn E. Eisenhart and her husband Ike of Codorus,Pennsylvania, and Jenny E. Whichard and her husband Larry of Fuquay Varina; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Kathy McQueen and her husband William of Hope Mills.
A Memorial Service will be held later.

Deborah Gardner

Deborah (Debbie) L. Gardner of Raeford died Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at age 67.
She was born on June 3, 1953, to the late Roscoe A. Smith and Mary Taylor Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Allen Wayne Gardner and her brother David M. Smith. She was a member of Parker United Methodist Church and retired from the State Employees Credit Union in Raeford as a Finance Officer. She was also a member of the Raeford Garden Club and a member of the Eastern Star in Raeford.
She is survived by three daughters, Christy Beasley and her husband Billy, Carrie Bounds and Amy Lunsford and her husband Josh, all of Raeford; six grandchildren, Brittany Beasley Archer and her husband Micah, Madison Branch, Hannah Beasley, Allie Grace Bounds, Jackson Bounds and Emily Lunsford; a sister Donna Baker and her husband Daren of Tampa Florida; two brothers, Rocky Smith of Fredericksburg, VA and Ricky Smith and his wife Ellen of Hilton Head, SC; her aunts, Frances Corey, Juanita (Neda) Davis, Lillian (Midge) McClure; and her uncles, Jim Taylor and his wife Margarete, George Taylor and his wife Yvonne.
Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Avenue, Raeford.
