Bobby Ray Setzer, 77, of Mooresville, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville.
He was born on September 16, 1934 in Newton, North Carolina, to the late Grady Ray and Ruth Marie Hass Setzer. He was a veteran serving in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a 1960 graduate of East Carolina University and a 1969 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill Pharmacy School. He began his pharmacy career with Cornwell Drugs and was employed with BiLo Pharmacy. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Lion's Club in Lincolnton, the Kiwanis in Marion and the Jaycees in Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Matze Setzer; and sisters, Carolyn Inman and husband, Richard, and Janice Pickler both of Raeford.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 26 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Clay Brown and the Rev. Dr. Fred Coates officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Tressie B. Norris
Tressie Boahn Norris, of Braddy Road, Fayetteville passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 in her home at the age of 87.
She was born on April 28, 1924 in Hoke County to the late C.F. and Lydia Ray Boahn. She worked for more than 50 years in the textile industry in Red Springs and Raeford. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Red Springs for many years and after moving to Fayetteville became a member of Galatia Presbyterian Church. She participated in various group activities in both churches and was a recipient of the Presbyterian women's award and was an honorary life member. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lattiemore Norris, a sister, Lucy Koonce and brothers, Willie, Marcellous and Claudia Boahn. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a special great grandmother and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda McMillan and her husband Woodrow of Fayetteville; a sister, Lydia Johnson of Fayetteville; two grandsons, James McMillan and his wife Shirley and Andy McMillan and his wife Joy all of Fayetteville; great-grand daughter, Mary Allyson McMillan of Fayetteville; great-grandsons, Christoper, Matthew and Adam McMillan all of Fayetteville, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Isabella Bundy
Isabella Wright Bundy, 92, of 314 King Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Carolina Rehab of Cumberland.
She was born in Hoke County on December 27, 1919 to the late Arthur and Isabella Campbell Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband Roscoe Bundy. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she was choir director for over 30 years. She was also a member of the Hoke County Home Extensions Club.
Survivors are: sons, Wayne Bundy and wife Ann of Newport, and Gerald(Jerry) Bundy St. and wife Susan of Fayetteville; brother, James Wright of Birmingham, Alabama; sister, Vivian Yergan of Durham; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 23 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.

Joye C. Russell
Joye Crissman Russell of Richmond, Virginia entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 19, 2012 after a long battle with Ovarian cancer. She was 61 years old.
Joye was born on October 12, 1950 in Graham, North Carolina to Glenn and Elaine Crissman of Aberdeen. She is preceded in death by her father and by her brother Johnny, and is survived by her mother, her husband of 42 years, Herman W. Russell of Richmond, and three children, Tina Lyon (Ed) of Raleigh, Brad Russell (Jo Anny) of Powhatan, Virginia and Ryan Russell (Christie) of Clarksville, Virginia. She is also survived by her five siblings, Jennie Lewis (Wayne), Joel Crissman (Nancy), Jim Crissman (Barbara), Janice Everhart (Robbie) and Judy Davis (Kevin), and her nieces and nephews. The joys of her life were her eight grandchildren, Abbie, Nate, Caedmon, Chesed, Justin, Athan, Charisa, and Holland.
She retired after 19 years of service with the International Mission Board, Southern Baptist Convention having served both in Malawi, Africa and in the home office in Richmond.
She touched the lives of countless individuals as a powerful prayer warrior and through her lifelong work of Christian missions and ministry with her husband both in America and overseas. She also enjoyed late night conversations, game nights and traveling with her beloved friends.
After discovering she had ovarian cancer she spent the next five years ministering to fellow chemo patients and spreading awareness about the disease.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at 5:30 p.m. followed by the funeral at 7 p.m. at Bethany Place Baptist Church in Richmond (1501 South Providence Road, North Chesterfield, VA). A second visitation will be held at Ashley Heights Baptist Church, Aberdeen on Thursday, February 23 at 5 p.m. followed by a funeral at 6:30. Private interment will be held at Bethesda Cemetery, Aberdeen.

Edna Whitehead Donevan of 3532 Dunn Road, Eastover, died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Bethesda Health Care Facility in Eastover at the age of 81.
She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 25, 1930, to the late George and Hilda Whitehead. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald C. Donevan, her daughter Sylvia Scott and her granddaughter Shelia VonCannon. She was a member of LaFayette Baptist Church in Fayetteville. She retired after 31 years with civil service in the Pay Inquires Department at Ft. Bragg.
She is survived by two sons, Ronnie Donevan of Dunn, and Stephen Donevan of Fayetteville; two daughters, Sharon Hutchinson and her husband M.D. of Fayetteville, and Susan Tarbell and her husband Mike of Richmondville, New York; a brother Willis Whitehead and his wife Diane of Silver City; two sisters, Marcella W. Grantham of Red Springs, and Barbara W. Neblett of Richmond, Virginia; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Retired U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Wendell E. Schipper, 82, of Raeford, passed away in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012.
Mr. Schipper was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty A. Schipper; and two grandsons, David Schipper and Paul Schipper.

Survivors include her loving husband J.R. (Jimmy) Conoly of Raeford; her oldest daughter, Debora C. Adams and husband Harley Adams Jr.; her youngest daughter, Nancy L. (Cindy) Conoly; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He retired from the US Army as Command Sgt. Major in 1976. He was the owner and operator of Star Gun Kennels and Shooting Preserves. He was a member of Pittman Grove Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Jones of Raeford; two sons, Lewis E. "Eddie" Jones, Jr. and wife Jeanne of Raeford, and Daniel E. "Danny" Jones of Raeford; three grandchildren, Medina Phillips, Ashley Valley, and Joseph E. Jones; two great-grandchildren, Chance Jones, and Jakobie Jones; and a sister, Catheryn J. David Lindsey Atkinson, 47, of Wilmington passed away Sunday February 12, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born November 24, 1964 to the late Dorothy Jones Hayes. He is preceded in death by his brothers William, Bert (Charlie), and Howard Hayes all formerly of Raeford.
He was a unique person, born hearing impaired, and learned to communicate by sign language and graduated from Morganton School for the Deaf in Morganton. He was an employee at K & W Cafeteria for the past 18 years, and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his father James Atkinson (Gudrun) of Spring Hill, Florida; a sister Shirley H. Honeycutt (Lloyd); a brother James Hayes (Tami); aunt Louise (Ken); uncle R.B. Jones; and many nieces and nephews. He especially adored his great niece and nephew Katelyn and Michael Gieschen.

Margaret Newton
Margaret Elizabeth Wood Newton, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday February 12, 2012. She was born April 11, 1919 in Hoke County to the late Thaddeus Graham Wood and Flora Margaret Monroe Wood. She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin David Newton, Sr and a son, Edwin David Newton, Jr; a brother, James G. Wood and sisters Lela W. McInnis and Hazel W. Smith. She was a lifelong member of Galatia Presbyterian Church and a recipient of the Presbyterian Women's Honorary Life Membership. The family will receive friends Tuesday February 14, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, and the funeral will be conducted Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Galatia Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Shuford White and the Rev. Beth Faulk officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Margaret Ann Newton Shannon and husband Eugene H. Shannon of Raeford; Patricia Elizabeth Newton Hurt and husband Jeffery W. Hurt of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Louise Wood Reynolds of Raeford; nine grandchildren: 17 great-grandchildren; and two caregivers, Julia Zabala and Elaine Minshew.

Ben Haddon
Ben T. Haddon, Jr. of Sunset Harbor, formerly of Raeford, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012 surrounded by his wife and stepchildren.
He was born September 4, 1930 in Hamilton County, Tennessee to the late Ben Terrill Haddon, Sr. and Myrtle Rogers Haddon. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Georgiana Denmon and Margaret Huie. He was a member of Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte. He was a Korean Veteran, a former member of the Raeford Kiwanis Club and the South Brunswick Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Raeford Masonic Lodge and the Sudan Shrine Temple. During this time he was instrumental in obtaining admission for six children to various Shrine Hospitals. He was a former president of the Brunswick County Fishing Club.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Haddon of Sunset Harbor; a stepson, Mike Prevatte of Sunset Harbor; a stepdaughter, Gloria Moore and husband Robin of Moore County; a sister, Dorothy Karwisch of Waynesville; a step-granddaughter, Sharon Freeman of Augusta, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews and a bevy of friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte.

Dwight Allen Ross, 50, of 169 Angel Drive, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2012.
