Hamer Jackson Leach, age 89, of Charlotte, died January 23, 2018 in Charlotte.
He was born March 11, 1928 in Raeford, a son of the late Foster Grady Leach and Geneva Seawell Leach.
After World War II he served 18 months in Alaska with an aviation engineering unit of the US Air Force.
He was a graduate of N.C. State University with a degree in electrical engineering.
He retired from Bell South in 1982 after 30 years of service.
He was an active member of Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church for many years where he served as an elder and member of the building committee.
He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the beach with his family and friends. He had a sweet and gentle nature.
He touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Robbie Best Leach; three daughters, Teresa Hauser of Winston-Salem, Eleanor Barker of Charleston, South Carolina and Laura Whitley and her husband David of Asheville; four grandchildren, Bryn Hauser, Byron Hauser, Jordan Barker and Jackson Barker; and sisters, Anne Leach of Charlotte and Eleanor Leach Gouldin and her husband, Dr. Winston Gouldin of Norfolk, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert G. Leach.
The family will greet friends at 10 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 27 at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church - Calvin Chapelm, the Rev. Dr. Wesley Brown and Assoc. Pastor Shari Dobyns officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, 6740 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28212 or Urban Ministries Center, PO Box 31335, Charlotte, NC 28231, to benefit the homeless.
