Margaret Taylor

Margaret Elizabeth Taylor, 69, of Bladenboro passed away Friday, November 25, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Ethel Tyson; a sister, Faye Robeson; and brothers, J.L. Tyson and Barney Tyson.

 Survivors include a sister, Nora Lee Hinson of Shallotte; and brothers William Tyson of Bladenboro, and Junior Tyson of Whiteville

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 1-1:45 p.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Miller officiating. Burial will be held in Taylor Cemetery in Lumberton.

Richard Taylor

Richard Lee Taylor, 72, of Bladenboro passed away Monday, November 28, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Rosa Taylor; wife, Margaret Taylor; and sister, Margie Baxley.

Survivors include his brother, Billy Ray Taylor and wife Mary; sisters, Rosa Lee McLean, Frances Bailey and husband James, Patricia Campbell, Velma Davis and husband Mac, Annette Hendrix.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 1-1:45 p.m. at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Miller officiating. Burial will be held in Taylor Cemetery in Lumberton.

Flora W. Reynods

Flora Louise Wood Reynolds, 90, of Rockfish passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016.

She was born January 3, 1926 to the late Thaddeus Graham Wood and Flora Margaret Monroe Wood. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Cecil Reynolds, sisters Lela W. McInnis, Hazel W. Smith, Margaret W. Newton, and James Wood.

She was a lifelong member of Galatia Presbyterian Church and a recipient of the Presbyterian Women's Honorary Life Membership on October 27, 1996. She was employed by the Department of the Air Force, PopeAFB, for 28 Years. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Survivors include her son, James Michael Reynolds and wife Vickie; daughter, Martha Parks and husband Ray; grandchildren Elizabeth P. Williams and husband Rusty, Tony Reynolds and wife Darby, Melissa Parks, Chris Reynolds and wife Liz, Jennifer P. Rezeli and husband Luke; and great-grandchildren, Austin Reynolds, Hailey Reynolds, Abby Williams, Ryan Williams and Lauren Reynolds.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Galatia Presbyterian Church with a funeral following at 2 p.m. in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Kay L. McMillian

Kay Lentz McMillian of Raeford, passed away Friday evening, November 18, 2016 at the age of 58.

She was born March 7, 1958 in Moore County to the late William Thomas Lentz and Aline E. Daniels. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Raeford Presbyterian Church. She retired in 2015 from Hoke County Department of Social Services, were she worked as an administrator.

She is survived by her husband Smokey McMillian of Raeford; daughters Joli M. Blanks and her husband Tim of Monroe, and Anna M. McMillian of Santa Fe, New Mexico; grandchildren Everett Ray Blanks and Aline Louise Blanks; brother, William Thomas Lentz, Jr. and his wife Helen of Raeford; and sister Elizabeth Jean Smith of Raeford.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday November 21 at Crumpler Funeral, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22 at the Raeford Cemetery, with Pastor Jim Smith officiating.

Frances Conoly

Frances Elizabeth Hanner Conoly, 71, of Germanton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2016, at Priddy Manor Assisted Living in King after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Aug. 3, 1945, in Lee County, North Carolina. She attended high school in Raeford. She worked as a customer service representative in the banking industry until her retirement. She was an avid quilter. She was a strong woman who survived two bank robberies when she was a teller, including one in which a robber placed a bomb in front of her. She didn't think it was really a bomb, but she gave the robber a bag of money that exploded with red dye as soon as he left the bank, and she ran to lock the door behind him. She also dealt bravely with Alzheimer's disease and bone marrow cancer.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Sarah Ann Griffin, and her parents, Robert Neil Hanner and Billie Reaves Hanner. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Donald Neill Conoly; sons Kenneth Neill Conoly and wife Peggy of Carolina Beach, Jeffrey David Conoly and wife Regina of Chester, Virginia, and Jason Paul Conoly and wife Amy of Florence, South Carolina; brother Scott Hanner of Wake Forest; grandchildren Stephanie Groger and husband Jimmy, Crystal Lamb, David Conoly and wife Lindsey, and Samantha Conoly; and great-grandchildren Jacob, Lily and Reiley Groger, Gavin and Chloe Lamb, and Braydon, McKenna and Landon Conoly.

Barbara Warlick Lawrence

Barbara Warlick Lawrence, 78, of Wilson, passed away Thursday with her daughters by her side.  

She was born May 2, 1938, and grew up in Raeford. She graduated from Wake Forest University and taught high school English upon graduation. She had two daughters with her first husband Richard Johnston, and stayed home to raise her family in Wilson. She then became a librarian with the Wilson Library which furthered her love of reading. She was fortunate later in life to marry the love of her life, Pete. She especially enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Pete. She was a loving, caring and wonderful mother. She was the ultimate caregiver for her entire family.  She will also be missed by her golf friends, her bridge friends, her high school friends and her church friends. 

She is survived by her daughters, Beth Johnston Thomas and husband, John G. of Charlotte, and Cathy Johnston Bowen and husband, Jerry of Raleigh; granddaughters, Sara and Barbara Anne Thomas; grandson, Alex Johnston Bowen; sister, Judie and husband, Sam Byers, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; niece Julie Warren; and nephews, Brandon and Laine Byers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, of 28 years, Peter Brian Lawrence; her parents, Harvey and Pearl Warlick; brother, Samuel Dixon Warlick; and nephew, Sam Russell Byers.

Elijah Smith Jr. died Saturday, November 05, 2016.

He was the son of the late Mamie Ree Harris and Elijah Smith Sr.

He is survived by his sisters, Jackie Barrett, Waltener Jefferson, Gail Headen and Debbie Smith; and brother, Frank Harris, Jr (Delois).

Ann G. Davis

Ann Gibson Davis, 60, of Raeford, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Southeastern Hospice House.
She was born in Scotland County, on March 6, 1956 to the late Stafford Ed Gibson and Doris Clark Gibson. She was preceded in death by her brother Stafford Ed Gibson Jr.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Davis and his wife Mandi of Lumber Bridge, and Donald Davis of Lumber Bridge, one granddaughter Kaylee Parker of Lumber Bridge, her companion Jim Gabbard and four brothers, Danny Gibson, Ronny Gibson, Larry Gibson, and Lloyd Gibson all of Raeford.
Visitation is Tuesday, Nov. 15 6-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dwight Jackson officiating.

William (Bill) Curry

William Thomas (Bill) Curry, 69, died October 22, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Hoke Hospital. 

He was born in Westchester, New York on August 1, 1947 to the late Charles William Curry and Ruth Hadden Hendrix.

Henry E. Mack Jr.

Henry E. Mack Jr. departed this life on Monday October 31, 2016 quietly at home.
He was born on March 9, 1932 in Trenton New Jersey to theMack Whiteside, sister-in-law Wilhemina Brown Medley and granddaughter Tanisha Funchers.
He was educated in Trenton Public Schools, and attendedArtillery of the 82nd Airborne Division (1951-1954). He also served in Marine and Air Force reserves for 8 years.
He was employed at Globe Industry in Dayton, Ohio, Trentonprojects prior to retirement.
He was a member of Mack's Chapel A.M.E. in Red Springs where he was a trustee and sang in the men's choir.
He was a member of American Legion and Disabled American Veterans and enjoyed traveling, particularly cruising.
He is survived by his wife Georgianna Mack of the home; daughters Jeanne Taylor of New York, New York, Adrienne (Lang) Funchers, and Michelle

Sue B. Leftwich

Sue B. Leftwich, 69, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Oct. 25, 2016.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1946 in Raleigh, the daughter of the late Huey S. Brock and the late Evelyn Ruth Kelbaugh.
She was also preceded in death by Harry Lee Leftwich, her husband of over 31 years, brothers William S. Brock, and Huey Sandford Brock Jr., a grandson, Jeremy J. Spence, and a son, Charles E. Spence.
She is survived by two sons, James B. Spence of Cape Girardeau and Adam B. Leftwich of Raeford; daughters-in-laws Linda D. Spence and Crystal C. Leftwich; four grandchildren, Amanda Jenkerson of Cape Girardeau, Zachary Spence of St. Louis, Missouri, Adam C. Leftwich of Raeford, and Elizabeth C. Leftwich of Raeford; and two great-grandchildren, Josephine Q. Jenkerson and Charles A. Jenkerson of Cape Girardeau.
She had begun attending Cape First church in Cape Girardeau to strengthen her faith and enjoyed the fellowship and the services there.
In years past, she had maintained a newspaper route and had been a homemaker.
A visitation will be held from 11-1 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
There will be a service followed by laying her body to rest at the Sand Hills Veteran's Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Magadeline Thompson

Mary Magadeline Currie Thompson, 76, of Ellerbe, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. 
She was born October 18, 1940 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Bernie and Merle Martin Currie. She was a member of Saron Baptist Church and had retired from Open Arms Rest Home in Raeford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Leon Thompson. 
Surviving are her children, Alice Taylor (Robbie) of Red Springs, Douglas "Buck" Thompson ( Felicia ) of Richburg, South Carolina, Gale Rotundo (Arthur) Aberdeen, Becky Smith of Lexington, Dennis Thompson (Joy) of Welcome, and Debbie Thompson-Whitis (Tim) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; grandchildren, Cassie Taylor, Tyler Thompson, Brandon Thompson, Douglas Thompson, Matthew Keaton, Amanda Kleean, Josh Smith, Ashley Pope, Phillip Whitis, Jennifer Berrier, and Jonathan Thompson; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Currie of Emporia, Virginia, and Marie Fulp of Ellerbe. 
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Bro. Wayne Luck and the Rev. Brad Boberg officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Joseph "Joe" Thomas Lee

Joseph "Joe" Thomas Lee of Wheat Ridge, Colorado died Oct. 20, 2016.
He was born January 24, 1940 to Vera Lee Walters in Raeford. As a youngster and through high school, he was a resident of Boys Town (Nebraska). He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958-1962. Following his years in service, he attended Adams State College/University on a football scholarship. He was a member of the Alamosa Police Force and Aspen Police Department prior to moving to Denver in 1971 where he operated downtown parking facilities. He retired in 1998. He was an avid bike rider and weightlifter.
He is survived by his beloved son, Joey (Joseph) Thomas Lee II (Lemar), of Los Angeles, California; his former wife Margaret Lee of Denver, Colorado; his aunt O'Lee Bowen; cousins, Ricky and Gayle, of Raeford; and his Boys Town brothers, Bob Curtin (Sharon), and Robert Cross (Margaret.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 5, at 2 p.m. at Horan & McConaty, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard, Denver, Colorado, with a reception to follow.

Vickie L. Cook

Vickie Lynn Cook, 33, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, October
15, 2016 at her mother's residence.

She is survived by her son, Tyler Wayne Bullard of Raeford; mother, Samantha Cook of Fayetteville; father, Russell Dale Reed of Tennessee; sister, Hannah Faye Minter of Eastover; and brothers, Michael Wayne Babb of Fort Worth TX, and Russell Dale Reed Jr., and William Joey Kotar both of Tennessee.

A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 2712 Everitte St., Fayetteville. Pastor Vivian Rhone and Pastor Wesley

Sharon Guenther

Sharon "Sherry" Kay Guenther of Raeford died Monday, October 10, 2016 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at age 73.
She was born in St. Clair County, Illinois on September 25, 1943 to the late Arthur Wright and Adelaide DeBoer Wright. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and going to the beach. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Steven W. Guenther of New Athens, Illinois; her daughter, Sue Guenther of Carthage; and her grandchildren, Chantelle Guenther and her fiancé, Dustin of Prairie du rocher, Illinois, Cole Guenther of Millstadt, Illinois, and Kurt Baldwin and Matt Baldwin of Carthage.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
