Cynthia L. Oxendine

Cynthia Locklear Oxendine of Raeford died Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the age of 56.

She was born November 25, 1959 in Robeson County. She was preceded in death by her father Freeman Locklear. She was a member of Mt. Elim Baptist Church and a former Sunday School Teacher. She received her bachelor's degree in Nursing and a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. She was the owner of HealthCare Connections, Inc., and was the previous health director for the Hoke County Health Department where she worked for 22 and a half years before retiring.

She is survived by her husband, Dwight Oxendine of Raeford; a son, Andrew (Andy) Oxendine and his wife Heather of Raeford; two daughters, Amber Oxendine and Chelsey O. Goodman and her husband Kyle all of Raeford; her mother Virginia Locklear of Red Springs; a brother, Kevin D. Locklear and his wife Carol; three sisters, Bonnie D. Locklear (Randy Jacobs), Regina Clark and her husband Timothy, and Shawanna L. James and her husband Nelson; six grandchildren, Madison Danielle Oxendine-Spencer, Mason Andrew Oxendine, Brantley James Oxendine, Emily Hope Oxendine-Spencer, Montgomery Grace Goodman, and Beau Everett Goodman, and a seventh blessing on the way.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 25 from 7-9 pm at Mt. Elim Baptist Church in Red Springs.

The funeral will be held Saturday, March 26th at 4 p.m. at Mt. Elim Baptist church with the Rev. Dr. Tony Brewinton, the Rev. Dr. Chris Webb, the Rev. David Hunt, and the Rev. Larry Locklear officiating. Entombment with be in the church cemetery.

Faye Williams

Faye Emanuel Williams, 64, of Raeford, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 21, 2016 after a brief Illness.

She was born in Cumberland County on June 13, 1951. She was preceded in death by her mother, Luberta Goodman Emanuel.

She was a first grade teacher and a reading teacher until she retired. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Raeford where she was involved in the WMU, choir, hand bells and Sunday School.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy R. Williams of Raeford; a daughter, Aprille Williams Compton and husband Shane of Shelby; a son, Brian Williams and wife Kelley of Charleston, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Peyton and Emma Compton, and Brynn and Harper Williams; her father, Lawrence V. Emanuel of Dunn; and three sisters, Kay Emanuel of Raleigh, Valerie Minervini and husband Leo of Raleigh, and Kim Beasley and husband Boyd of Dunn

Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Lee and Pastor Eddie Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Andrena D. Scott

Andrena Deese Scott, 63, of Deese Road in Pembroke died March 15, 2016.
She was born to Edith Locklear Deese and the late Caswell "Toke" Deese on March 7, 1953. 

She was a teacher and executive director of Career Technical Education with Hoke County Schools for more than 30 years. She was a leader at Berea Baptist Church, where she was instrumental in organizing Bible Drill, Vacation Bible School, and Team Kid and served as a Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Scott and their children Gabriel and Ethan, as well as Phillip and Megan Henderson and their son Alek.

The funeral was held at 4 p.m. Friday at Berea Baptist Church. Burial was in the Deese family cemetery.

Clyde Wyrick

Clyde Leon Wyrick Jr., 82, of Red Springs, died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Brian Center Viewmont. Born June 28, 1933, he was the son of Clyde and Bessie Wyrick. 
A daughter, Judy Norris of Shalotte; a son, Greg Wyrick of Red Springs; and two grandchildren, Austin Wyrick and Amanda Wyrick, both of Hickory, survive him.
His wife Dorthy preceded him in death.  
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel  with the Rev. Steve Disher officiating. 
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs. 
The family will receive friends from 10 -11 a.m. Tuesday March 22 at the funeral home.

Donald Miles

Donald Miles, 54, of Pinehurst, died Sunday, March 13, 2016, in Pinehurst due to an auto accident.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Miles; his mother, Mary Eleby Miles; children, Shanette, Dominique, and Brandon;  stepchildren, Mantron and Marcus (LaChanda);  brothers, Samuel (Annie), Josh (Sheila), Leon, and Marshall;  sisters, Diane Bell (Delantha) and Jackkari Miles; seven grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Mildred Davis.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016, at 2 p.m. at New Shady Grove FWB Church, 1015 Gold Hill Road, Shannon. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery.

Richard A. Williamson

Richard Arnold Williamson of Fayetteville died Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at his home at the age of 74.

He was born July 18, 1941 in New Orleans to the late Walter and Ruth Williamson. He served in the U S Air Force in the Intelligence Department just before he retired. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police.

He is survived by his daughter, Angela S. Blackburn and her husband, Ronald of Raeford, a granddaughter, Jennifer Blackburn of Raeford, and a brother, Larry Williamson of Waynesville.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Ruth W. Green

Ruth Wilson Green of Aberdeen died March 11, 2016 at her home at the age of 79.

She was born January 17, 1937 in Union, South Carolina to the late Husie Wilson and Jewel Ruth Register Wilson. She was a member of Ashley Heights Baptist Church and retired from McCain Department of Correction.

She is survived by her husband Sydney L. Green of Aberdeen, and her children, Shirley McFadyen (Bill) of Cameron, Steven Vinson (Margaret) of Jamestown, Amy Batten of West End, and Erik Vinson of Sunset Beach.

Visitation will be held   6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home 40229 US 1 Highway Aberdeen.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Ashley Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Huff officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Leon A. McNeill

Leon Anthony McNeill, 62, of Raeford, formerly of Southern Pines, died Tuesday, Mar 8, 2016 at FirstHealth/Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
He was employed for many years at FirstHealth/Moore Regional Hospital.
Surviving are children, LaTonyia and  Kahia McNeill, Natacia Tanner, and William Leonard Smith; mother, Beatrice Mack; father, David Murphy; five grandchildren; fiancé', Mary Ruth Harris; and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held Friday March 11 at 6 p.m. at  Douglass Community Center, Southern Pines
Inurnment will be in McNeill Family Cemetery at a later date.
The family is receiving friends at 819 South Mechanic Street, Southern Pines, at his daughter's home.

Melvin Parkins

Melvin Reynell Parkins III, 46, insurance agent, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

He is survived by his spouse Tammy; children Taylor and Tania; mother Brenda; father Melvin Jr.; brothers Maurice (Tammy M.) and Michael; and sisters Benetta Simmons (Lowell), Bertina, Briana, and Brittany. He was preceded in death by one brother, Matthew.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at East Lawn Cemetery on T.C. Jones Rd. in Rockfish at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends Monday night at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home from 6-8 P.M.
