Larry Woodcox

Larry Allen Woodcox Sr. of Hoke County died with his family at his bedside on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at age 74.
He was born on September 29, 1947 in Hoke County to the late Robert Oliver Woodcox and Nellie Brisson Woodcox.  
He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church and retired from Burlington Industries after 50 years of employment.  He enjoyed fishing at Carolina and Kure Beaches, hunting for a big buck (hoping for a 12-point), and growing a beautiful garden full of vegetables that he shared with family and friends. He was also known for raising quail for years and could cook them to perfection.  
He was preceded in death by his precious son, Larry Allen Woodcox Jr. (Allen), a brother, Bobby Woodcox, and two sisters, Frances Blake and Helen Lentz.  
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat Black Woodcox of Hoke County, a daughter, Christina (Tina) Woodcox Bernhardt and her husband Royce of Raeford, a brother, David Earl Woodcox of Raeford, and two sisters, Nellie Haselden (Bill) of Raeford, and Gail Dudash (Bob) of Harper's Ferry, West Virginia.
Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Thursday June 16 at Ephesus Baptist Church, Raeford. A service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Sanderson officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.

Gloria Yancey

Gloria June "Granny" Yancey of Butner died Sunday, June 12, 2022 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, at age 81.
She was born in Mecklenburg County on September 30, 1940 to the late Joseph Sinclair Graham and Leola Caldwell Howard Graham. 
She retired from Murdoch Development Center in Butner.
She was preceded in death by her husband Otis Graham Yancey.
She is survived by a daughter Tara E. Carpenter and her husband Jamie of Raeford; two granddaughters, Morgan E. Ramsey, and Ashlyn B. Ramsey both of Stovall; and a brother-in-law, Dale Yancey and his wife Sandra of Creedmoor.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Crumpler Funeral Home, Raeford.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Living Faith Ministries Church, Raeford with Pastor Tex Deaton and Pastor Eddie Mauldin officiating.
Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Steve Miller

Steve Allen Miller, 48, of Raeford, North Carolina, died May 17, 2022.
He was born September 2, 1973, in Raeford. He had a generous heart of gold, never hesitating to help people out. He Once happily shared on his Facebook, how his day was made when he had the opportunity to help someone in need, even though he himself was struggling, then he concluded, "I hope today is the best day ever and every day after does nothing but get better. I will see y'all around." Things such as helping others and doing things for others, that's what made Steve happy. He also took pride on his work and was good at it. 
Steve is predeceased by his Parents Marshall Royce Miller and Agnes Goodman. He is survived by his mother Brenda Miller of Raeford; his three brothers, Brian Miller and his wife JoAn of Fayetteville, Ronnie Miller and his wife Sarah of Chesapeake, Virginia and Travis Miller and is wife Christina of Parkton;  three nieces, Rebecca, Piper, and Zoey; and a nephew, Eric.

Ret. Staff Sgt. Vaughn Guy

Retired Staff Sgt. Vaughn Wayne (Duke) Guy of Raeford died Monday, May 30, 2022 at age 77.
He was born in Philadelphia on June 10, 1944 to the late Johnny B. Guy and Alvetia Mitchell Guy. He retired from the U. .Army in 1982 where he served proudly in Vietnam and was a survivor of the TET offense.  
He was preceded in death by his daughter Michaela Guy and eight siblings, Lawrence, Phillip, Gerald, David, Christopher, Kenny, Sheila, and Roxanne.
He is survived by his wife of 40 Years Leonor (Lee) Guy of Raeford;  four children, James Krom and his wife Melanie of Andover, Minnesota, Donna Betz of Newport News, Virginia, Robert Krom of Raeford, and Teresa Krom of Toms River, New Jersey; nine grandchildren, Pierre, Cierra, Giovanna, Emma, Mia, Noah, Isabel, Harvey Jr., and Richard; one great-granddaughter, Liliana; and five siblings, Donald Guy of Berlin, New Jersey, Martha Tyree of Maryland, Beetle Guy and his wife Sarah of Berlin, Roberta Strickland of Voorhees, New Jersey, and Dale Guy of Wilmington.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2022, at Crumpler Funeral Home, Raeford. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be at noon on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at the Sandhills Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd, Ft. Bragg, NC with full military honors.

Kay Norris

Kay Sappenfield Norris of Raeford died Monday, May 30, 2022, at the age of 90.
She was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church. 
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall in Raeford Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. in the church. Inurnment will follow at the Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs.

Kevin Goggil

Kevin Goggil of Raeford died at his home on Friday, May 27, 2022, at the age of 67.
Be was born in Peoria, Illinois on November 4, 1954, to the late Walter Leo Goggil and Elinor Byard Goggil. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Goggil, Jerry Goggil, and Mike Goggil. He served in the US Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Colleen Wilson Goggil of Raeford, and three children, Christopher Goggil of King George, Virginia, Craig Goggil, and wife Jodi of King George, Virginia, and Chelsea Bahn and husband Troy of East Peoria, Illinois, three grandchildren Tanner Bahn, Owen Goggil and, Colin Goggil, a brother Eric Goggil and wife Ann of Farmington, Illinois, a sister, Kathryn Johnson and husband Rick of Peoria, a brother-in-law Scott Wilson and wife Theresa of Raeford, and sister-in-law, Valerie Goggil of Mackinaw, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel, Raeford, with Military Honors starting at 1 p.m.

Beverly Dew

Beverly Barr Dew of Raeford died at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst on Friday, May 27, 2022, at the age of 54.
She was born in Cumberland County, New Jersey on June 22, 1967, to the late Artemas Dale Barr and Frances Todd Poniatowski. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ricky Barr and Dennie Barr. She served in the US Army Reserves for eight years. After twenty-two years of employment, she retired from the North Carolina Department of Correction. 
She is survived by her husband Edward Ray (Eddie) Dew of Raeford,l; four children, Christopher James Soles of Raeford, Justin Dew and wife Cheyenna of Raeford, Joshua Dew (Kari) of Aberdeen, and Angie Dew of Raeford, and four grandchildren, Cameron, Jonathan, Lilly, and Payton; two sisters, Contrena Marshall and husband James of Fayetteville, and Cindy Sifford and husband Hieu of Fayetteville; and a brother, Dale-Ray Barr of Hope Mills,
Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Avenue, Raeford, NC
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 30, 2022, at the Raeford First Baptist Church with Reverend Thomas Lee officiating.  Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery with Military and State honors.

Stephanie Smith

Stephanie Nichole (Nikki) Smith of Raeford died Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst at the age of 41. 
She was born in Cumberland County on December 24, 1980. She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Eugene Smith Sr., and was a member of Kingdom Impact Global Ministries in Fayetteville. She was employed with Next Step Childcare in Fayetteville.
She is survived by her mother, Linda Sumpter Smith of Raeford, a sister, Angela Smith of Fayetteville, a brother, Jessie Smith Jr. (Shannon O'Connor) of Greenville, a nephew, Jaylin Womack of Fayetteville, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins. 
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel, 131 Harris Avenue, Raeford, NC.
The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.

Unellear Rogers

Unellear Bullard Rogers of Red Springs died Monday, May 16, 2022 at her home.
She was born in Robeson County on Feb. 25, 1941 to the late John Willie Bullard and Harriett Locklear Bullard. 
She was a member of Smithtown Church of God in Maxton. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Autry Rogers. She is survived by two sons, Jeff Rogers of Red Springs, and Roy Rogers and his wife Norma Jean Rogers of Charlotte; two daughters, Deborah Rogers of Red Springs, and Carolyn Quenga and her husband Ronald Leon Quenga of Red Springs; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Daphnia Chavis of Maxton, Virginia Lowery of South Carolina, Helen Jacobs of Maxton and Judy Bullard of Maxton; a brother, Joseph Locklear; and a special friend Maxine Locklear.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2022, at Smithtown Church of God, Maxton. 

William Craig Jr.

William Howard (Billy) Craig Jr. of Supply, formerly of Raeford, died at his home on Monday, May 16, 2022 at age 64.
He was born in Blackstone, Virginia on June 25, 1957 to the late William Howard Craig Sr. and Glenda Hayes Craig. He was employed with his family's business, the Raeford Body Shop.
He is survived by his daughter Beth Ann Cook and her husband Charlie of Wadesboro;  two grandchildren, Trinity Cook of Maryland and Jacob Cook of Wadesboro; a brother, Kenneth Craig of Raeford; and a sister, Yvonne Whitmire of Supply. 
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Crumpler Funeral Home, Raeford.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022 at the Raeford Cemetery with Pastor Roger Burns officiating.

Robin L. Anselmini

Robin L. Anselmini, 84, of Raeford, died peacefully Friday, May 13, 2022 at Open Arms Retirement Home in Raeford.
She was born in Waco, Texas on August 9, 1937.  She was one of five children born to the late Ben and Sue Hardin. She lived in Los Angeles for 38 years where she was a paralegal. She and her husband, Frank, moved to Raeford in 2006 to be close to her sister, Jean Hodges. She fell in love with the town of Raeford, loving the people and small-town vibe. She was a volunteer with Hoke County Board of Elections, Hoke County Liberty Hospice, and Open Arms Retirement Home, where she volunteered providing manicures and much happiness to the residents and staff. She was a decades-long member of the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Class as well as various other charities. She was a dedicated member and active supporter of the First Baptist Church of Raeford.
She was a practical joker and had a great sense of humor. She loved to make people smile by dressing up in various costumes and funny outfits. 
She loved to entertain, listen to music, play cards and dominos with friends and family, travel, spend time at the NC coast, and loved her dogs, Fancy and Mitzi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, her son Paul, a brother Virgil Hardin, and sisters Jo Hunke, Dorothy Lohmer, and Jean Hodges and two nephews, Michael R. Hicks, and William Benton Hodges.
She is survived by her son Dan Anselmini and his wife Karyn and their daughter, Aerin of Riverside, California.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 20 at First Baptist Church, followed by a reception in the church Fellowship Hall.

Rodney Collins

Rodney Darrell Collins of Whispering Pines, formerly of Raeford, age 68, died Saturday, May 14, 2022, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
He was born in Pinehurst on November 9, 1953 to the late Clifford Odell Collins and Annie Ruth Harris Collins. 
He was an avid hunter and loved all his pets, past and present. He was preceded in death by brother Ricky Sherrill Collins. 
He is survived by his wife Leah Bailey Collins, two daughters, Monica Collins Hennessy, Ashley Collins Miller (Kenny), and stepson Adam M. Bailey. He was Papa to his beloved grandchildren, Eleanor (his miracle baby), Preston (his fishing buddy), Addyson (his Giggles), Hailey (his artist), and Owen (his Malibu); sister-in-law Joan Hudson Collins and former son-in-law Patrick Hennessy. 
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Crumpler Funeral Home, Raeford.

Gene E. Lowery

Gene E. Lowery 52 of 6809 Turnpike Road died Saturday, May 14, 2022 in a Chapel Hill hospital.
He was born October 23, 1969, to Mr. Eugene and Evelyn Lowery. 
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, David and Rosie Jackson; his paternal grandfather, Willie Lowery, and two aunts, Irene Jackson and Wanda Sue Jackson. 
He is survived by his parents, Eugene and Evelyn Lowery; two daughters, Kanresha Purcell and Danielle Locklear; brothers Robert Lowery (Michelle) Bently Lowery of Raeford and David W. Lowery (Clara) of Laurinburg; one sister, Ann M. Jacobs (Jerry) of Raeford, seven grandchildren; maternal grandmother Helen Lowery; and a special cousin, Pamela Tew.
A visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Crumpler Funeral Home of Raeford. The funeral will follow the visitation at 3 p.m.
Burial will be at New Beginning Baptist Church Cemetery 2909 Fulford McMillian Road, Raeford.

Anona M. Duimstra

Anona M. "Mitzi" Duimstra, 81, of Fayetteville, died peacefully in the arms of her daughter, Susan; granddaughters, Lyndsey and Holly; and great-grandsons, C.J. and Russel on Sunday, May 8.
She was formerly of Harmony, New Jersey, where she raised her three children. She was born October 29, 1940 in Bangor, Pennsylvania to the late Pearl May (Ackerman) Bittenbender and John Lester Bittenbender. She was a 1958 graduate of Washington High School, Washington, New Jersey and Empire Beauty School. She began her career in food service at the Harmony Township Elementary School cafeteria and retired to North Carolina in 1998 from Aramark. In her retirement she enjoyed her quiet life with her beloved shih tzus, Minnie of 17 years, and Belle. She never missed the opportunity to celebrate with her family on holidays. She also enjoyed poolside gatherings, and loved being around her granddaughters and great-grandsons and their friends, who absolutely adored 'Gramma' as she kept them all on their toes or in tears of laughter. She was also quite the bowler and dancer in her younger years, always trying to teach the younger generations.
She was predeceased by her parents; son, David Louis; grandson, Anthony John Policelli; and siblings, Beverly Buzzuto, and John and William Bittenbender. She is survived by her daughter, Sue (Jose) Ogas of Fayetteville; brother, James (Marilyn) Bittenbender of Burlington, New Jersey; sister, Patricia DeFranco of Bangor, Pennsylvania; granddaughters, Lyndsey and Holly Thatcher of Fayetteville; grandson, Daniel Policelli and his mother, Donna of Bangor, Pennsylvania; and great-grandsons, C.J. and Russel of Fayetteville.
Her life will be celebrated, in her home, surrounded by the family and friends who fulfilled her life with love and happiness .

Neil A. McDonald

Neill Angus McDonald III of Raeford died on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the age of 82. He died at his home, very peacefully and painlessly.
He was born in Hoke County on November 4, 1939 to the late Neill A. McDonald, Jr. and Carrie Moore Nash McDonald.
He was the owner and operator of Raeford Oil Co., Inc.
He grew up in Raeford, graduated from Hoke County High School, and went to Campbell College, now Campbell University, for three-and-a-half years. His father died in Neill's last semester of college, and he had no choice but to come home and take care of his mother, McDonald's Tire Recapping Service, and Raeford Oil Company. He owned and operated McDonald's Tire Recapping Service for 36 years. While he worked full time in the tire business, he also kept up with everything at Raeford Oil Co., ran a wrecker service, and was an active member of the Raeford Fire Department, serving as the Assistant Chief during his 37 years of service. After selling McDonald's Tire Recapping in the late 90's, he began working full time at Raeford Oil Co., Inc. He fought pancreatic cancer gracefully, stoically, and was a fighter until his last breath. 
On May 10, 1975, Neill married Harriett Smith. In the same year, he very graciously adopted Harriett's daughter, Mary Emily. In 1977, Neill and Harriett had a son, Neill A.(Mackie) McDonald IV.
He was a member of Raeford Presbyterian Church, but he was an active attendant at Antioch Presbyterian Church for many years. He helped many people in Raeford and beyond. 
He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett S. McDonald, his son, Neill Angus (Mackie) McDonald IV, and his beloved dog, Fiona. 
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Emily McDonald, of Raeford, a Godson, Younger Fletcher (Tripp) Snead, of Panama, a Goddaughter, Betty Blue, of Raeford, a sister-in-law, Melinda Smith, of Pinehurst,  2 nieces, Kimberly S. Gardner (Keith), of Fayetteville, and Elizabeth S. Moynahan (Will), of Lexington, KY, and by his special friend, Mrs. Margaret S. Hathaway, who made Neill the happiest he'd ever been, in the 5 years they were together.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 14, at the Raeford Cemetery, with Pastor Jim Smith officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the gravesite. 
The family asks for privacy and time between now and Saturday.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may go to Antioch Presbyterian Church, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
