Bettie A. Pope

Bettie A. Pope, 93, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Autumn Care of Fayetteville.
She was a member of The Attonement Baptist Church in Raeford & sang in the church choir, was a member of the womens auxillary, was an avid gardner & known for her southern cooking. She was preceded in death by her husband William E. Pope, Jr.
Survivors are:  her five children, Gary R. Pope & wife Ann of Winston Salem, NC, daughter, Jane Yasmine & husband George of Fayetteville, NC, Daughter,Priscilla Wright & husband Michael of Fayetteville, son Wayne Pope & wife Diane of Smiths, Alabama, son Timothy Pope of Raeford, NC. six grandchildren, Billy Darden, Danny Darden, Michele Sterling, Kimberly Wright, Larry Wright & Gary W. Pope. 12 great grandchildren, Priscilla Rettman, Brittany Sterling, Megan Darden, William Darden, Robbie Darden, Alex Darden, Michael Wright, Sarah Wright, Adam Wright, Morgan Lury, Anna Wright & Bella Cornell
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 12pm-1pm at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Service in the funeral home chapel at 1pm, burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.

Bessie McNeill

Bessie McNeill, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015.
Survivors are: daughters, Ina M. Worten(James), Pamela M. Holmes, Darlene Provilus and Nina McNeill Williams; sons, Milton Earl McNeill and Ryan McNeill(Tonya); 14 granchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary McNeill, Janice P. Waddell and Thelma Williams; and brother, Lenzo McNeill.
The funeral was held Saturday, December 26 at 2 p.m. in Buie Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Mountain Grove Church Cemetery.

 

 




Willie McClain

Willie McClain, Jr., 73, died November 30, 2015.
He was born in Durham, North Carolina to the late Willie McClain, Sr. and Dora Lee Washington. He is preceded in death by his brother, James McClain and sister, Ruth McClain Waddell.
Survivors are: his wife, Roberta Twine McClain; daughters, Kesha McClain Skyles, Debra McClain, and Samatha McClain Price; sons, Bernard Robinson, Olando McClain and Sidney McClain; sixteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four nieces; three nephews; four sister-in-laws; and five brother-in-laws.
A memorial service was held Saturday, December 5 at 2 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home Chapel.

Alan L. Pfeilstucker

Retired SFC Alan Leeland Pfeilstucker, 72, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 in his home.
Alan was born in Portage, PA., on August 31, 1943 to the late Albert and Sylvia Moyer Pfeilstucker. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1985 and remained in Germany with his wife until 2005. He loved his family, hunting, fishing and his animals and will be greatly missed. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings, Anita, Thea, Michael, Colleen and Kay.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Renate Pfeilstucker of Raeford; a daughter, Samantha Louise Thomas and husband Larry of Raeford; a granddaughter, Alexis Thomas of Raeford; brothers Patrick Pfeilstucker (Rose) and Danny Pfeilstucker (Sandi), all of Portage, PA; sisters, Jackie Kunko (Bob) and Kathleen Richardson (Bruce), all of Portage, PA.
Memorial Services with Full Military Honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2015 at LaFayette Funeral Home 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.

James R Dess, Sr.

James Robert Dees, Sr. died Thursday, December 17, 2015.
Survivors are: his wife, Joan; children, James R. Jr., Ronald, Timothy, David Mark; siblings, Sara Conoly, Dan Dees, Joyce Connally, Allen Dees, Allene Dees Stiffel, Malcolm Dees, Linda Lovette, Donnie Dees; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services was held Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Rockfish Baptist Church.

Linda F. Pate

Linda F. Pate, 69, of Raeford, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill.
She was born in Fayetteville on August 29, 1946, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Vander and Ada Blue.
The family has scheduled a private service.
Survivors are: her husband of 40 years, Bobby Pate of Raeford; daughters, Georgia (Dave) Stubbs of Cameron, Sallie (Lauren) Sherrill of Gray's Creek, Linda (Darrin) Jacobs of Gray's Creek; grandchildren, Ronnie (Nina) Jones of Carthage, Savannah Stubbs of Cameron, Lauren Sherrill II, Kelsey Sherrill, and Logan Jacobs, all of Gray's Creek; sister, Margie (Dennis) Stanley of Raeford; brothers, Michael (Jennifer) Blue and Freddie Arnett, all of Cape Coral, FL; nieces, Jada and Jenna Blue of Cape Coral, FL; nephews, Michael Blue, Jr. and Jackson Blue of Cape Coral, FL, and Aaron Blue of Denver, CO.

Jerry Bullard, 52, of 111 Edwards Road, Aberdeen, died Sunday, December 13, 2015.

Ariyana S. Gordon

Ariyana Skye Gordon
Our Princess, Ariyana Skye Gordon, 17 months, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte. Ariyana was the loving daughter of Charles and Kristina Gordon. She was born July 24,  2014 in Matthews, NC.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by 2 sisters, Alexiya and Karolyne Gordon; Maternal Grandparents, Edward (Mel) and Susan Hedrick of Monroe; Paternal Grandparents, Ronald (Buddy) and Angela Gordon of Raeford; numerous other family members.

Funeral Mass will be 9:00 AM Saturday, December 19, 2015 at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 13700 Lawyer's Rd., Mint Hill.  Private Graveside Service will be held at Jackson Springs Cemetery.

Hayes Infant


Michaela Cullen-Hayes, infant daughter of  Jimmie M. Hayes and Jennifer Cullen-Hayes of Raeford, died December 12, 2015.
Survivors include maternal grandparents Veronica and Johnny Cecil of Raeford; maternal great-grandmothers Virginia Hancock of Statesville and Jean Currie of Raeford; maternal great-grandfather Fred Cullen of Tucson Arizona; paternal grandparents, Sharon and Daniel Hayes Sr. of Fayetteville;  paternal great-grandmother Lillian Hayes of Fayetteville; one sister, Rileigh Cullen; and one brother, Hayden Finch.
A visitation will be held 6-8 pm Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2015 at Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church, with Reverend Roger Burns officiating.
Burial will be in the Currie Family Cemetery in Red Springs.

Edward W. Strother

Edward W. Strother, of Greenville, South Carolina passed December 11, 2015, in his 60th year. 
Edward was born in Scotland County, NC to the late Ralph Lee Strother and Emma Lois Autry.  He was a graduate of Hoke High School and the University of South Carolina, enjoyed USC and UNC sports, especially basketball.  He was an accomplished financial planner with Edward Jones Investments and a dedicated member of Brookwood Community Church where he was active in local mission ministry.  His life was devoted to his family, friends, church, and clients.  A loving and devoted father and husband, beloved by all those who knew him well, and cared for by his church, family, and friends.  The greatest daddy a girl could ever hope to have and one of the best men any fortunate person could ever encounter, much less get to know and enjoy in their lives.  He was always quick with a witty remark, and went out with the God-given, amazing smirk, with which he was graced. 
Surviving are Alison and Jean Strother, currently residing in Royal Palm Beach, FL; sister, Catherine Brock (Jessie) and brother, Dennis Strother (Cindy) of Raeford, NC. 
Memorial service Thursday, December 17, 2015, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Brookwood Community Church, Simpsonville, SC.  The family will greet friends immediately following the service.  Committal service Saturday, December 19, 2015, at 2:00 pm in Ashley Heights Baptist Church Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Missions Ministry of Brookwood Community Church, 580 Brookwood Point Place, Simpsonville, SC  29681.

Sebastian Dugas, 20 of Raeford, died Monday, December 7.
Survivors are: parents, Ralph and Joyce Dugas; a brother, Yohan Dugas; grandparents; and a host of relatives.

Harvey Allen Chavis, 60, of Raeford, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015.
Survivors are: his wife, Rosa Chavis; son, Norman Chavis; and daughter Katina Chavis.

Shaylan Lowery, 19, of 155 Windlock Drive, Raeford, NC, died Monday, December 7, 2015.

Francine Monroe

Francine Monroe, 75, of Raeford , died Saturday, December 5, 2015.
The funeral will be held Friday Dec. 11 at 2 p.m., Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery .
Viewing will be held Thursday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Doby Funeral Home.




Pat A. Wilson

Patricia "Pat" Allen Wilson of Five Points passed away Dec. 10, 2015 at the age of 76.

She was born May 19, 1939 in DeRoche Township, Hot Spring County, Arkansas to the late Arvilee and Margie Sanders Allen. 
For many years she was editor of The News-Journal, and before that, the Spring Lake News. She continued working as a freelance journalist until her death. She was well-respected in Hoke County for her integrity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arvilee and Margie Allen, and four siblings, Kenneth Allen, Shelba Tankersley, Barbara Allen and Steve Allen. She is survived by one brother, Stan Allen.
Married to the late Carroll R. Wilson for 36 years, they are survived by a daughter, Jeanne E. Dees (Dale) of Fayetteville; and three sons, Thomas C. Wilson (Cathy) of Lithia, Florida, Cary A. Wilson of Raeford, and James A. Wilson (Lynn Paluga) of Raeford; three grandchildren, Eric, Carly and Macey Wilson; a step-granddaughter, Adrian Burdette; and two step-great-granddaughters, Bella and Piper Burdette.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford with Pastor Vernon Livingston officiating.
In lieu of flowers, she has requested donations be made to The Arthritis Foundation or Alley Cat Allies.

Thomas Wharton

Thomas E. "Tom" Wharton of Raeford died Tuesday, December 8, 2015 in his home at the age of 71.

He was born in England on April 5, 1944 to the late Robert and Marian Brew Wharton. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Melanie Wharton of Raeford; his sons, Scot Wharton of Texas, Dennis Scott and his wife, Beth of Arizona, Todd Scott and his wife, Rebecca of Raeford, Nathan Scott and his wife, Melanie of Washington State; one daughter, Amanda Diaz of California; and 15 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
